Salary Range: $45,000-$50,000 Summary of Position: The Assistant Director of Camp & Afterschool programs supports the daily operations of our summer camp and year-round afterschool programs at the Pozez JCC, including summer camp, afterschool, vacation days, inclusion supports, and teen programming.
This position supports the implementation of departmental priorities by ensuring that policies and plans are carried out consistently and effectively across programs.
The Assistant Director ensures continuity, stability, and informed operational decision-making within established priorities with the Director.
Core responsibilities:
Making timely decisions to maintain safe, compliant, and functional programs.
Adjusting plans as conditions change while remaining aligned with established priorities.
Staff coverage, supervision, and escalation:
Coordinating staffing coverage and maintaining required ratios.
Supporting supervisors and frontline staff.
Determining when issues can be resolved independently and when escalation is required.
Implementation of policies and systems:
Translating organizational policies, safety requirements, and operational constraints into workable daily practices.
Supporting staff understanding and consistent application of expectations.
Coordination and follow-through:
Managing timelines, logistics, and handoffs across programs.
Ensuring tasks, communications, and decisions are followed through to completion.
Issue identification and mitigation:
Identifying emerging challenges before they escalated.
Addressing recurring issues through improved coordination and communication.
Inclusion and belonging:
Supporting inclusive practices as an integrated component of all programs.
Assisting staff in implementing accommodations in a consistent and thoughtful manner.
Balancing individual participant needs with program-wide requirements.
Qualifications and Competencies: Successful Candidates will have the following professional background:
3+ years of prior experience in youth programs, education, camp, afterschool, or inclusion services.
Demonstrated operational leadership within complex environments.
Experience working within regulatory, staffing, and safety requirements.
Familiarity with family communication and stakeholder coordination.
Ability to manage responsibility across multiple programs simultaneously.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:

Ability to remain composed under pressure.
Strong organizational and coordination skills.
Capacity to identify patterns and anticipate operational needs.
Ability to influence and coordinate across teams without reliance on formal authority.
