Director of Credit Policy and Loan Review
to lead enterprise-wide credit policy and loan review functions for a leading credit union. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining consumer, residential, and commercial credit policies, executing independent loan reviews, and providing objective assessments of portfolio credit quality and risk governance. This position will be onsite in Hauppauge, NY. Responsibilities of the Director of Credit Policy and Loan Review include:
Develop, implement, communicate, and maintain comprehensive credit policies and procedures across consumer, residential, and commercial lending
Lead a robust loan review program, including sample-based testing for compliance with underwriting standards and credit policy
Perform regular credit portfolio reviews to assess credit quality, documentation integrity, and adherence to risk appetite
Monitor portfolio performance, identify trends, concentrations, and emerging risks, and recommend corrective actions
Prepare detailed reporting and presentations for senior management and Credit Risk and Fair Lending Committee
Provide effective oversight and independent challenge of lending practices and credit decisions
Communicate review findings, inconsistencies, and policy gaps to loan officers, underwriters, and lending leadership
Partner closely with loan originations, underwriting, and loan operations to ensure consistent policy execution
Support audits, regulatory examinations, and risk governance initiatives
Serve as a key advisor to leadership on enterprise initiatives impacting credit risk
Perform all duties inherent to a manager, including staff oversight, coaching, and development
Required Qualifications for the Director of Credit Policy and Loan Review:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Accounting, or equivalent experience (minimum seven years)
Minimum seven years of experience within a bank or credit union environment
At least five years of experience in credit policy, loan review, underwriting, credit analysis, or related discipline
Underwriting experience in commercial and/or residential lending
Proven experience writing, managing, and governing lending policies and procedures
Minimum three years of leadership or people-influencing experience
Strong knowledge of credit risk management and loan portfolio evaluation
Preferred Skills:
Formal credit risk training or professional certification
Experience leading consumer credit strategy across auto, personal, or specialty lending products
Exposure to credit analytics, portfolio performance monitoring, and risk modeling
Experience supporting credit committees, securitizations, or investor reporting
Familiarity with advanced analytics or emerging risk-monitoring tools
Compensation for the Director of Credit Policy and Loan Review includes:
Salary Range:
$150,000 – $170,000
annually (based on experience)
