Overview
Production Manager (Chautauqua Theater Company) / Seasonal Employment. Location: Chautauqua Institution. Reports to the Producing Artistic Director and Managing Director, providing strategic oversight and ensuring a positive, inclusive, and safe environment while maintaining timely and cost-effective execution of all production events. Seasonal employment for Summer 2026; cross-disciplinary and/or educational experiences will be considered. 3-5+ years of theater production management experience required.
Responsibilities Oversee the execution of all production operations for CTC’s 2026 Summer Season.
Serve as the key collaborator between production staff, creative teams, and CTC leadership.
Maintain and track production budgets in coordination with department heads; monitor all production and show-related expenditures.
Collaborate with the Producing Artistic Director and General Manager to create seasonal and production calendars; oversee development in collaboration with other departments.
Oversee and run all production-related meetings; monitor progress of each production department.
Coordinate with the independent off-site shop handling scenic builds; work with their PM and TD as needed.
Cultivate and promote a safe working environment in line with health and safety regulations and best theater practices.
Verify and uphold compliance with local and national collective bargaining agreements (AEA, IATSE, USA, SDC).
Coach and develop staff by monitoring work quality, providing feedback, resolving conflicts, and ensuring adherence to policies; undertake disciplinary actions as needed.
Apply knowledge of technical theater disciplines, including understanding technical design drawings.
Delegate production and facilities tasks to the Assistant Production and Facilities Manager and Production Assistants as appropriate.
Creative Team Support & Engagement Provide clear communication and collaboration with all members of the creative teams; ensure understanding of CTC resources (budget, schedule, staffing).
Collaborate with the PAD & GM to create, maintain, and update design guidelines, policies, and show calendars for sharing with creative teams.
Attend mandatory, full-company Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) training.
Schedule
Season runs June–August with potential pre-season work beginning in January. Pre-season may be remote; typical season schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays. A typical work week during season is 5 days (~40 hours). Pre-season hours build from 5–10 hours/week to 20–30 hours/week as the season approaches.
Living on the Grounds
Limited housing options may be available on-site or assistance may be provided in locating nearby housing. Housing is not guaranteed for all positions and may incur costs. This position offers employer-provided housing and parking, including a private bedroom and shared living space, with residency from early June to late August.

Qualifications
