POSITION: Prevention Specialist

SALARY: $26.71 – $30.96 / hour DOE

REPORTS TO: Native Star Initiative Supervisor

LOCATION: Keller/Inchelium, WA

Basic Functions: Position assists the Colville Confederated Tribes in its efforts to reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs by youth and young adults, as well as engage community stakeholders in encouraging positive youth development.

Education and Training

Typically requires a BA in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Health or related field

Minimum Qualifications

Prefers experience working with youth and elder community. Strong public speaking and facilitation background highly preferred.

Require a valid driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes vehicle insurance.

Requires First Aid/ CPR card.

Requires Defensive Driving certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The position requires knowledge and understanding of substance abuse and treatment.

Requires excellent oral and communications skills and ability to facilitate speaking engagement and other community forums throughout the four districts.

Requires community organization skills and the ability to reach out to community and strategic partners and form coalitions as necessary.

Requires experience providing culturally competent programming to diverse populations on the Colville Confederated Tribes or similar jurisdiction.

Requires demonstrated skills in communicating prevention and information and motivating people to change their attitudes and behaviors.

Requires experience in grant writing and or management.

Requires effective interpersonal problem solving, negotiating and collaboration building skills. Requires strategic and innovative thinker.

Requires strong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening, emotional intelligence.

Requires strong time management skills (organization, prioritization, multitasking). Proficiency with use of computers (desktop, laptop, tablet). Proficiency with MS Office 365 (i.e., Outlook, Word).

Requires proficiency with use of mobile devices (smartphones, mobile apps) skills. Requires critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Requires the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and have strong communication and presentation.

Requires the ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.

Requires the ability to adapt to changing environments and receive constructive feedback.

Requires the ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct.

Requires the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, establishing and maintaining collaborative professional relationships.

Requires the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Requires the ability to use a computer, telephone or cell phone, and access to a secure internet connection. Limited mobility and lift passenger ambulatory aids such as wheel chairs onto platforms.

Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to walk to project locations, to stand for extended periods of time, and to bend and stoop for limited periods of time.

Requires sufficient arm-hand-eye coordination to operate a computer keyboard and pointing devices at a proficient level.

Requires sufficient visual acuity to read technical documents and instructions.

Physical Requirements

Requires the ability to lift, push, pull and carry objects of medium weight (less than 50 lbs.).

Requires the ability to work onsite and to perform telework activities, while complying with all requirements for confidentiality, records, and data security.

Requires the ability to work non-standard hours (i.e., evenings, weekends).

Requires the ability to drive in adverse weather conditions and may require some travel and occasional participation in off-site functions.

Requires the ability to drive long distances/duration within the four districts.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribe’s Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
