Overview Stanford University is hiring for a System Administrator to support the implementation and ongoing operation of a Salesforce-based business system serving students, instructors, and staff. The role involves collaboration with an external Salesforce implementation partner and multiple Stanford technical teams to provide enterprise platform strategy, cross-functional problem-solving, and day-to-day platform administration as well as involvement in all phases of implementation, including configuration, requirements, policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

Platform Administration & Operations

Administer Salesforce environments supporting CSP business functions, including user access, security, licenses, authentication (SSO/MFA), and core administrative settings.

Configure and maintain platform features, data models, and reporting/analytics access in alignment with approved requirements.

Monitor system health, performance, and usage; identify issues, recommend improvements, and support reliable day-to-day operations.

Serve as a primary point of contact between users, business partners, and technical teams, managing intake, triage, communications, and release coordination.

Coordinate testing and deployment of Salesforce seasonal releases, including sandbox validation and stakeholder communication.

System Analysis & Issue Resolution

Perform business and system analysis to assess production issues, enhancements, patches, and upgrades using logs, audit trails, integrations, and data quality indicators.

Document issues, root causes, and resolutions to support efficient troubleshooting and knowledge sharing.

Monitor transactional workflows and data processing to ensure continuity of service.

Collaborate with business partners to gather, document, and refine system requirements and process improvements.

Evaluate, prioritize, and implement enhancements, balancing platform capabilities, risk, and long-term maintainability.

Configure Salesforce objects, automations, validation rules, workflows, and related features; develop and support test plans, UAT, rollout, and post-deployment validation.

Collaboration & Release Support

Partner with developers and implementation teams to review designs, validate solutions, coordinate sandbox usage, and support deployments.

Support release readiness, post-release monitoring, and stabilization; communicate change impacts and expectations to stakeholders.

Maintain system documentation, configuration records, and functional specifications in alignment with SDLC practices to support auditability and operational continuity.

Support data governance, security, privacy, backlog planning, prioritization, and status reporting in alignment with university policies and applicable regulations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience : Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or a combination of education, training, and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Demonstrated ability with the Salesforce ecosystem and modules; strong capabilities in data mapping and conversion, table structure knowledge, running and analyzing traces, configuration settings, page customizations, security updates, custom coding logics, issue analysis and recommendations, running data queries, documentation skills, test script development, functional analysis, coordination of user acceptance and sign-off, business process improvement, fit/gap analysis, requirements documentation and process flow charting, and facilitation of options and solutions.

Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with minimal direction and establish ongoing relationships with clients, staff, and management.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Preferred & Certifications

Ability to take business requirements and formulate Solution Design.

Demonstrable proficiency in Salesforce administrative configurations and with Salesforce Development Tools.

Demonstrable proficiency with Salesforce configuration migrations using Change Sets.

Experience with workflow rules, validation rules and assignment rules; Salesforce API (REST/SOAP/Metadata).

Experience integrating Salesforce with third-party systems using APIs and web services.

Strong knowledge of Commerce Cloud, Education Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Tableau, Data Cloud and other Salesforce modules.

Good knowledge of development tools for agile work (e.g., Jira) and collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence, Trello).

Certifications: Salesforce Administrator Certification (ADM-201) required or achievable within 12 months.

Physical Requirements

Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks; frequently sit, grasp and manipulate; occasionally stand or walk and use a telephone.

Rarely write by hand; lift/carry/push/pull objects up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

May work extended hours during launches and other time-bound deliverables; occasionally support after-hours changes when required.

Compensation : The expected pay range for this position is $124,870 to $155,346 per annum.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the university reasonably expects to pay for a position upon hire. The pay offered will be determined based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities, qualifications, budget, internal equity, location, and market.
