Overview
AVP, Underwriting Director Property role with Zurich in Atlanta within Commercial Insurance. This market-facing position focuses on analyzing and underwriting new and renewal business, using the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority, for higher technical complexity, to deliver high-level service to customers. Strong sales execution mindset and knowledge of commercial property policies are preferred. The role requires visibility in the marketplace to meet with agents and brokers and in-office presence three days per week.
Responsibilities
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
Develop, maintain and collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other related needs.
Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition; determine insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
Support the organization’s sales culture by serving as a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
Qualify accounts to meet the organization’s appetite and balance with sound business opportunities.
Make broker/customer on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
Qualifications The role may be filled at Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on experience and qualifications.
Executive Underwriter – Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, OR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an associate degree and 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an associate degree and 8+ years of experience in the claims or underwriting support area.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Experience meeting time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
Experience working in a team environment
AVP, Underwriting Director – Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent and 7+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
High School Diploma or equivalent and 14+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area, OR
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area and
Experience with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree
Technical knowledge of commercial Property Underwriting
Established broker relationships (retail, select brokers) in Southeast region
Sales execution mindset
Creative problem-solving skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Your pay at Zurich is based on role, location, skills, and experience. You may be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. The salary range for this position is $98,300.00 - $213,000.00, plus a short-term incentive bonus of 20%. For
Executive Underwriter , the range is $98,300.00 - $161,000.00 with a 15% bonus. For
AVP, Underwriting Director , the range is $130,000.00 - $213,000.00 with a 20% bonus.
