YOUR ROLE We are seeking an experienced and driven Account Manager to lead and grow our commercial insurance sales team, with a strong emphasis on Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines. The Account Manager plays a key role in driving the success by managing small commercial accounts from quote to bind, navigating both admitted and E&S markets, and supporting our digital distribution partners. This role blends traditional account management with modern digital workflows—supporting agents, working closely with underwriting partners, and ensuring a seamless experience.
What You'll Do Sales Leadership & Team Development
Manage small commercial accounts across multiple lines (GL, BOP, WC, Property, Professional Lines, Cyber, Commercial Auto, etc.) from quote, bind, issue, and renewal.
Navigate E&S and specialty markets, including preparing submissions, negotiating with underwriters, reviewing indications/quotes, and explaining terms to agents or insureds.
Serve as a point of contact for digital distribution partners, helping them understand appetite, requirements, and placement options.
Triage inbound submissions from our digital, embedded, and partner channels, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Leverage Bold Penguin’s technology (Universal Submission, Smart Document Upload, data guardrails, etc.) to drive faster placement and higher bind rates.
Communicate underwriting requirements, additional information needs, and next steps to agents and partners clearly and professionally.
Build relationships with E&S underwriters, MGAs, and wholesale partners to expand market access and improve turnaround time.
Review quotes and terms for accuracy, clarify conditions or restrictions, and present options to the agent/insured.
Manage renewals, ensuring retention, timely outreach, and exploring alternative markets when needed.
Maintain detailed, accurate documentation in our agency management system (AMS) and digital workflows.
Provide input to improve processes, appetite guides, and workflow enhancements as we scale the digital agency.
Business Development & Client Engagement
Continue to act as a producer by prospecting, generating new business opportunities, and maintaining key accounts.
Educate small business clients on risk exposures and design tailored E&S coverage solutions.
Leverage digital platforms to streamline quoting, binding, and servicing for efficiency and scale.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with wholesalers, MGAs, and E&S carriers to expand placement options.
Meet or exceed personal and team sales targets while ensuring an exceptional client experience.
Account Management & Service Excellence
Oversee and support the team in managing renewals, endorsements, and service requests.
Ensure proactive client communication, including annual coverage reviews and risk reassessments.
Drive compliance with regulatory requirements, carrier guidelines, and company standards.
Identify process improvements and best practices to increase efficiency and consistency across the team.
Requirements YOUR LOCATION
This is a fully remote role, with the exception of onboarding and optional in-office events.
Skills & Experience
3+ years of commercial insurance experience with at least 1–2 years in E&S or specialty lines
Strong understanding of small commercial underwriting, rating, and carrier appetites (admitted and non-admitted).
Experience placing risks through MGAs, wholesalers, and E&S carriers.
Ability to read and interpret coverage forms, endorsements, conditions, and underwriting memos.
Comfort operating in a fast-paced, digital-first environment with multiple intake channels.
Strong customer service and relationship skills—especially with independent agents, digital partners, and underwriters.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
Proficiency in agency systems, submission platforms, or workflow tools; comfort learning new technology.
Active P&C license
Experience with small commercial platforms or digital distribution environments.
Background working with start-ups, insurtechs, or high-growth agencies.
Familiarity with surplus lines filings, stamping requirements, or declinations processes.
Knowledge of Bold Penguin’s ecosystem (Exchange, Universal Submission, or Agency Portal).
