Position Overview The
Route Sales Representative
is responsible for servicing existing customers by delivering products, securing premium in-store placement, and driving sales growth through merchandising and relationship management. This role combines route delivery with frontline sales, ensuring exceptional customer service and consistent execution of company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Drive a company vehicle to deliver products, equipment, and supplies to grocery-based customers while achieving route profitability and sales targets
Promote and sell marketing initiatives to secure additional displays, shelf space, and premium product placement at customer locations
Manage product inventory and selection tailored to each customer’s needs to ensure availability and freshness
Accurately record sales and delivery information using a handheld device and make updates as needed
Provide exceptional customer service by building relationships and addressing account needs promptly and professionally
Rotate stock according to company guidelines to maintain product freshness and quality
Monitor and collect payments from delinquent accounts and ensure timely deposits of collected funds
Load and unload products and equipment, ensuring order accuracy and proper handling
Participate in promotional and special events to enhance product awareness and support brand initiatives
Maintain cleanliness and perform routine maintenance checks on assigned vehicle, including fluid levels and tire pressure
May be asked to perform additional duties as necessary.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Passing score on aptitude test required in lieu of high school diploma or equivalent
1 year of experience in customer sales and service.
Route sales and cold calling experience in a Direct Store Delivery (DSD) environment preferred.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid driver's license required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required at specific locations.
Acceptable driving record.
DOT medical certification required.
Successful completion of a pre-employment physical.
COVID vaccination may be required depending on customer entry requirements for specific routes.
Internal Only: Experience with Community Coffee, even if unrelated, may fulfill this requirement at the discretion of the hiring manager with approval from Human Resources.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will service/sell to approximately 20-30 customers per day and is required to do the following:
Frequently required to sit and occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Must be able to frequently lift 35 pounds and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Field Sales Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be moderately loud in warehouse areas.
