General Summary of Position Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Infection Prevention programs at MFSMC, MUMH, MGSH, and MHH to decrease risk of infection to patients and associates. Reporting to the MSH System Senior Director Infection Prevention and collaborating closely with entity clinical leaders, coordinating with System IP Safety and Quality leaders, and integrating System HAI reduction initiatives into the local Infection Prevention program.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Establishes or adopts hospital acquired infection (HAI) performance goals for the Infection Prevention programs in conjunction with System IP Quality and Safety.

Develops department goals and objectives, ensuring compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.

Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.

Oversees and participates in training and orientation of IP staff, delegates Infection Prevention work, develops standards of performance, evaluates performance and conducts performance management planning, initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions, and maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.

Collects, analyzes, synthesizes, and organizes data for reporting to appropriate personnel committees and regulatory agencies.

Manages Infection Prevention associates at multiple hospitals.

Oversees development of policies and procedures.

Effectively relates to peers, supervisor, and customers on a daily basis.

Recommends, secures approval of, and ensures effective administration of comprehensive Infection Prevention policies and procedures affecting hospital departments. Conducts periodic review of hospitals' overall compliance with established infection prevention methods and regulatory agency guidelines.

Monitors hospital practices for potential risk and identifies hospital acquired infections (HAIs). Investigates epidemics of HAIs and directs changes in practices.

Serves as a resource person to physicians, administrators, nursing personnel, and other hospital departmental personnel and assists in developing and interpreting appropriate infection prevention procedures. Keeps personnel informed of problems or significant developments in infection prevention.

Conducts analysis and research about hospital infections. Utilizes appropriate epidemiological methodologies for the collection and analysis of infection related data. Prepares and distributes periodic and special reports about HAI occurrence measures and trends. Utilizes research and literature to design changes in practices.

Directs and implements training programs for associates about the epidemiology of hospital acquired infections and monitors compliance.

Reviews changes or additions in applicable federal and local regulations and standards to ensure hospitals continue compliance.

Evaluates infection prevention aspects of patient care products, equipment, and supplies.

Coordinates reporting of communicable diseases to appropriate agencies as required by law in cooperation with attending physicians.

Provides staff support to the Infection Prevention Committee.

Maintains current knowledge of technical and business developments and communicates relevant information to the work group.

Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.

Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.

Minimal Qualifications Education

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Medical Technology, or other related Science Field required.

Master's degree preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience in infection prevention inclusive of 5 years of management experience.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid RN license in the State of Maryland if applicant has a degree in NSG, Medical Technology, or Masters in Public Health.

CIC (Certification in Infection Control) required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Investigative data collection and analysis skills.

Ability to use computer to collect data and prepare reports.

This position has a hiring range of USD $142,064.00 - USD $287,996.00 /Yr.
