Overview
The Director of Data Management, Engineering, and Business Intelligence is an enterprise-wide technology leader responsible for building a data-driven culture at Garan Apparel. This role ensures that data is accurate, available, secure, and AI-ready, while also delivering exceptional user experiences that empower business teams to make fast, confident decisions. By integrating Microsoft Fabric on Azure, managing Power BI, and collaborating with the Enterprise Architect, development, and security teams, this leader ensures that data is not only delivered but also understood, trusted, and acted upon across all departments. Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, implementation, and management of Microsoft Fabric on Azure to unify data from e-commerce, B2B, supply chain, finance, and customer service functions, ensuring seamless integration, governance, and scalability. Utilize One Lake and Azure-native data services for optimized storage, sharing, and analytics across the enterprise. Orchestrate robust data pipelines and real-time analytics with Fabric Data Factory and Azure Event Hub. Database and Power BI Oversight
Oversee all databases—SQL, NoSQL, cloud data warehouse—ensuring performance, reliability, security, and scalability. Manage and optimize Power BI architecture, semantic models, and dashboards to support actionable business insights for all departments. Business Intelligence & User Experience Leadership
Design user-centric BI solutions that go beyond technical delivery—focusing on clarity, usability, and actionability for executives, analysts, and operational teams. Apply UX best practices in BI design: simplify navigation, reduce cognitive load, use intuitive visualizations, and enable interactivity (such as drill-downs, filters, and tooltips). Ensure role-based dashboards that deliver relevant insights to different user types—executives, operations, and analytics—with personalized views and natural language search capabilities. Incorporate data context—benchmarks, trends, and comparisons—so users understand not just what the data says, but why it matters and what to do about it. Conduct user testing and feedback loops to continuously refine dashboards and reports based on real-world usage and business impact. Collaboration Across Functions
Work closely with the Enterprise Architect to ensure that data flows, integrations, and systems architecture align with long-term enterprise goals and standards. Partner with the development team to deliver optimized data models, robust schema design, performant queries, and reliable ETL/ELT processes that drive application and analytics performance. Engage regularly with the security team to enforce data policies, ensure compliance (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), maintain Azure Key Vault integration for secrets management, and monitor for data breaches or vulnerabilities. AI Agent Readiness and Innovation
Build and maintain AI-ready datasets, semantic layers, and feature stores to support future deployment of AI agents for personalized experiences, autonomous decision-making, and process automation. Evaluate, pilot, and scale AI agent technologies in partnership with the
Enterprise Data and AI Architect
to drive enterprise innovation and intelligent automation. Third-Party Vendor Management
Manage relationships with external technology vendors to ensure reliability, cost-effectiveness, support, and continuous improvement within Garan’s data ecosystem. Oversee the onboarding, integration, and performance of all data tools and connectors provided by third parties. Continuous Optimization and Industry Alignment
Proactively monitor system health, data flow, and performance across Azure services, identifying and resolving issues before they impact operations. Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and use cases—especially in retail data, agent-based AI, and Microsoft Fabric innovation—ensuring Garan’s data strategies remain state-of-the-art. Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field. 10+ years in enterprise data leadership across retail, apparel, or e-commerce, with hands-on experience in Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and data governance. Proven track record managing databases, optimizing BI environments, and delivering secure, reliable data solutions for large organizations. Experience collaborating with architects, development, and security teams on complex enterprise projects. Strong understanding of BI user experience principles, dashboard design, and data storytelling. Desired Skills & Competencies
