The
Director/Senior Director, Finance & Accounting,
will lead the Finance and Accounting function at the company. Reporting to the Chief Business Officer/SVP of Finance and serving as the primary financial business partner to each of the functional units, this position will be responsible for creating and implementing finance and accounting processes, including payroll, reporting, budgeting, equity, variance reporting, long‑range financial forecasting and valuation, scenario planning, and ad hoc financial analysis to support optimal strategic and tactical decision‑making. This position will also play an important role in providing financial analyses to support business development and financing transactions as well as supporting the company’s competitive intelligence and market research efforts. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of corporate finance together with experience in the business of drug development and will have demonstrated the initiative to successfully drive effective finance and accounting processes across business units. This is an onsite position, based in San Diego. Key Responsibilities
Create and implement an annual budgeting process, along with a process for updating the budget quarterly. This would also include evaluating the financial implications of alternative operating scenarios. Oversee payroll, reporting, external accountants, and financial audits. Provide monthly variance reporting on a department and corporate basis comparing actual financial performance with budget and understanding the key variance drivers. Develop and maintain the company’s long‑range financial forecasts. Proactively look for opportunities to perform ad hoc financial analyses that provide key insights to support optimal decision‑making. Contribute to board presentations and external corporate communications materials, including investor decks, earnings releases, SEC filings, etc. Qualifications
Required
BS degree in business, finance, accounting, economics or related area is required. CPA. Prior Biotech, pharmaceutical, and/or biopharma experience. Ability to work on‑site at our San Diego office. Preferred
MBA or Masters in accounting or finance. 5-10 years of relevant professional experience, ideally leading FP&A within a biotech company. Investment banking experience is helpful. Must possess a strong knowledge of US GAAP and Sarbanes‑Oxley compliance. Strong Excel modelling skills and adept at using PowerPoint. Demonstrated initiative to create and drive implementation of new processes. Effective cross‑functional collaborator with strong communication skills, comfortable multi‑tasking, and capable of operating in a matrixed, fast‑paced biotech environment. High attention to detail balanced with the ability to think strategically.
