Overview
The
Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
will lead the organization’s financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management activities. This role partners closely with senior leadership to align financial resources with strategic priorities, deliver actionable insights, and drive data-driven decision-making. Reporting to the AVP of FP&A, the Director will lead a small, high-impact team and collaborate cross-functionally with key business stakeholders. Responsibilities
Own and lead the annual budgeting, long-range planning, and quarterly forecasting processes, partnering with functional leaders to develop, validate, and challenge key assumptions and drivers. Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic initiatives, capital investments, and business decisions. Lead the annual pricing strategy to optimize railcar financial returns and ensure alignment with corporate objectives. Oversee compliance with AFE policies, ensuring consistent financial analysis, approval workflows, and post-approval monitoring in accordance with Board Delegations of Authority. Rigorously evaluate cost-benefit assumptions and ensure accurate documentation and routing within Oracle PPM (Project Portfolio Management). Lead financial evaluations related to asset lifecycle decisions, including railcar disposition and repair-versus-replace analyses. Partner with Asset Management, Maintenance Planning, and Finance/Treasury to optimize fleet utilization and capital allocation. Deliver timely, accurate, and insightful financial reporting and dashboards for executive leadership, including quarterly Board materials and ad hoc analyses. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve profitability, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation. Partner with G&A leaders to plan, manage, and optimize departmental spending and resource allocation. Champion advanced analytics, automation, and standardized FP&A processes to enhance insight generation and scalability, including exploration and adoption of AI-enabled tools. Collaborate with IT and Finance Transformation teams to implement modern financial systems, improve forecasting capabilities, and fully leverage Oracle EPM functionality. Lead, mentor, and develop FP&A team members, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and accountable culture. Build strong cross-functional partnerships to promote transparency, alignment, and shared ownership of financial outcomes. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field 10+ years of progressive FP&A experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role. Deep expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and performance metrics. Hands-on experience with ERP and EPM platforms (e.g., Oracle) and advanced analytics tools such as PowerBI. Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
