Job Profile Summary The Senior Director, Student Recreation Activities provides strategic leadership for Broward College’s recreation, intramurals, club sports, and student engagement initiatives. The role oversees multi-campus recreational programming and facilities while coordinating student outreach efforts that ensure students are informed, connected, and actively involved in campus life. The position strengthens visibility and participation in Student Life recreation, intramural, and club sports programs through consistent, coordinated outreach and high-quality student information. This role ensures recreation, engagement, and outreach functions operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with institutional goals. Minimum Qualifications
Master\'s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or related field. Eight years of experience in higher education student life, student recreation or sports. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Demonstrated experience in recreation, intramurals, student affairs, or engagement-focused roles. Experience overseeing student staff or professional staff and coordinating student-facing initiatives, programs, or information distribution. Strong writing and editing abilities with attention to clarity and detail. Ability to manage projects, multiple deadlines, and diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with design platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva. Experience working in campus recreation or student engagement within higher education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recreation, Intramurals, and Club Sports Leadership
Provide overall leadership and vision for the College’s recreation and intramural programs, ensuring a vibrant, accessible, and inclusive set of offerings. Develop, launch, and assess new recreational and wellness initiatives based on student interest and participation trends. Oversee the creation and administration of club sports, including governance, eligibility, budgeting, staffing, and risk management. Manage recreation facility operations, scheduling, staffing coordination, maintenance needs, and safety protocols. Ensure compliance with all college, state, and national standards related to recreation, sport clubs, and intramurals. Direct multi-campus engagement initiatives that strengthen belonging, retention, and participation in Student Life programs. Guide planning and execution of high-impact engagement events, series, tournaments, and co-curricular activities. Partner with academic and administrative units to provide engagement opportunities aligned with the student experience. Student Marketing and Digital Outreach
Ensure that student information posted online, distributed across campuses, or shared by departments is clear, student-friendly, and aligned with divisional priorities. Develop and maintain targeted student outreach efforts, including student updates, and digital postings that support participation and retention. Produce or oversee the creation of visual materials, digital content, and graphics that support Student Life programs, recreation events, and engagement initiatives. Ensure consistency and quality of student-facing materials by using standard design platforms such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva. Supervision and Staff Development
By way of shared supervision; 3 full-time Campus Directors and 3 full-time Campus Supervisors. Directly supervise part time employees and student employees supporting recreation, engagement, and outreach. Provide coaching, training, and ongoing professional development. Foster a professional collaborative environment that models high-quality service to students. Assessment, Budget, and Strategic Planning
Develop and manage budgets for intramurals, recreation, club sports, engagement programs, and outreach functions. Conduct ongoing assessment of program participation, student feedback, facility use, and outreach effectiveness. Use data to inform decision making and support institutional retention and engagement goals. Competencies
Student Messaging and Information Delivery: Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly to diverse audiences. Leadership: Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and support staff and students. Project Management: Skilled at managing multiple programs, timelines, and responsibilities. Collaboration: Proven success working across departments and external partners. Office-based with frequent use of computers and digital tools. Evening or weekend hours as needed for major college events or recreational programming. Regular travel between campuses required. Organizational Placement
This position is housed within Student Engagement and Success and reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Student Engagement and Success.
