About the Role
As Director of Mechanical Engineering, you will lead our mechanical design team and oversee project execution from concept through completion. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and staff oversight and development. You’ll set direction for the team, review high-level technical work, ensure project quality and delivery, and support business development alongside other Directors and upper management. What You’ll Do
Provide departmental oversight for mechanical engineering across multiple, concurrent projects, ensuring alignment with company priorities, budgets, and client commitments. Establish standards and approve critical deliverables in models, drawing packages, FEA, and calculations, maintaining excellence in technical output. Guide the discipline’s expertise in dynamic structures, drivetrain design, and machine systems for aerospace, ride, and show applications, with authority from concept definition through testing and implementation. Strengthen client partnerships by leading high-level technical discussions, resolving complex challenges, and ensuring proactive communication with executive leadership on budgets and schedules. Shape project opportunities through proposal leadership, department staffing strategy, and long-term forecasting of resource needs. Develop and lead the mechanical engineering staff through hiring, performance management, mentoring, and establishing clear growth pathways. Advance the department’s capabilities by collaborating with other Directors on cross-discipline resource planning, engineering processes, and business development initiatives. What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (graduate degree strongly preferred). 12+ years of full time recent experience in mechanical engineering design, analysis, HA/FMEA, and drawing production. 10+ years of recent experience managing projects and leading engineering teams. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) strongly preferred. Strong design creativity, attention to detail, and ability to align technical solutions with broader project and company goals. Proven client-facing experience in consulting or project delivery, with skill in building long-term relationships and representing engineering decisions to stakeholders. Experience with manufacturing preferred; knowledge of machine control systems a plus. What We Offer
