The University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics invites applications for the position of Division Director of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Qualified pediatric gastroenterologists at the Associate or Full Professor level are encouraged to apply. The Division Director will provide strategic leadership for the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at UVA, overseeing clinical services, trainee education, research initiatives, and administrative operations. This role includes developing and implementing divisional goals aligned with departmental strategy, advancing clinical and academic programs, and supporting an active ACGME-accredited fellowship. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong leadership, a proven academic track record, and a commitment to innovation in patient- and family-centered care. Preference is given to those with established research programs and clinical excellence, particularly as the Division manages multiple NIH R01 grants and benefits from philanthropic support. Responsibilities
Oversee eight faculty members specializing in areas such as inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplantation, eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, disorders of gut-brain interaction, nutrition, quality improvement, and medical education. Lead UVA Health Children’s for comprehensive pediatric gastroenterology subspecialty care, including inpatient services, more than 7,000 outpatient visits, and 1,500 procedures annually for patients throughout Virginia and beyond. Coordinate a multidisciplinary clinical team, including three nurse practitioners, two psychologists, two dietitians, five nurse care coordinators, physical and occupational therapists, and two social workers, to support the division’s clinical mission and quality improvement efforts. Drive quality improvement initiatives focused on inflammatory bowel disease, pediatric liver transplantation, and mental health in children with chronic illnesses. Qualifications
The position is open to individuals with M.D. or D.O. degrees, eligible for appointment to the University of Virginia faculty. Tenure or non-tenure track at the professor or associate professor rank as appropriate. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible. Application Instructions
