Overview

This position will manage the workload, direct and coordinate efforts related to Berkshire Hathaway’s federal policy efforts involving the federal appropriations process, trade and tariff issues, electric and alternative fueled vehicles, electrification and customer solutions, telecommunications, and other relevant issues including related emerging technologies and regulatory/business models. It will also play a lead role in coalition development in support of the full range of federal issues impacting the company’s businesses. Monitor related policy developments, lead the preparation of documents, and assist in outreach to members of Congress and their staff, and executive branch departments and agencies. Provide guidance on federal issues of importance to Berkshire Hathaway Energy’s operating companies, identifying key business experts and organizing their input for responding to federal policy matters. Prepare and present company presentations to external audiences as required. Provide timely and appropriate responses to data requests and input to reports filed with Congress, executive branch agencies, state agencies, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. This position may be required to register as a lobbyist depending on circumstances and company interests. Responsibilities

Monitor and review Congressional and executive branch agency actions, directives, and rules related to transportation, electrification, and customer service, and related emerging technology policies and recommend proactive strategies and responses. Coordinate with business unit experts, assuring that all responses are accurate and timely, and that there is a direct link between key business objectives and related policy positions pursued by the BHE Washington, D.C. office. Advise management of the implications of FERC proposals or actions. (30%) Develop and maintain effective relationships and communications with related trade associations, non-governmental entities, and other policy and customer groups involved in engaging in transportation, electrification, and customer service policy development. Serve as principal policy liaison to operating company staff and senior executives on issues related to trade and tariffs, transportation and alternative fuel initiatives, and federal appropriations and grant support. Help coordinate business expert involvement and support for the board participation of Berkshire Hathaway Energy business unit senior executives in related trade association activities. (20%) Provide support for electrification and customer solutions teams including tracking large load integration and associated tariff and contract options, including project management, federal grant evaluation, and coordination with outside stakeholders to internalize market dynamics and best practices. (20%) Timely and accurately communicate relevant policy issues to senior management for their review and direction. Participate, as directed, in federal legislative policy discussions, hearings, studies and task forces. Proactively track legislative proposals affecting the company’s electrification, alternative fuel, and customer relations operations. Coordinate with operating company personnel to understand and assist in managing around changing regulation and markets. (10%) Keep the Senior Vice President and office personnel informed on breaking developments and key media coverage involving regulatory, legislative, and business environment developments affecting the company’s business. (10%) Develops communications policy for emerging issues involving electrification, alternative fuels, and customer solutions. Reviews internal communications to ensure that documents conform to the Berkshire Hathaway Energy communications and formatting guidelines. The position is responsible for providing related subject matter for inclusion in the quarterly Board of Directors’ report, as well as the weekly, monthly and quarterly goals reports and corporate reports to Berkshire Hathaway Energy senior management. (10%) Participate in the development of corporate and departmental business plans; stay current with required company training and participate in office initiatives. Assist with charitable giving and diversity and inclusion activities undertaken by the Washington, D.C. office. (10%) Qualifications: Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically, four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor’s degree.) Advanced degree preferred. Three years of related experience. Meets requirements to register as a lobbyist at federal and state levels. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently. About Us
