Contract Role: Project Finance Attorney - Renewable Energy
Piper Maddox are supporting the search for an experienced Project Finance Attorney to support financing transactions for a growing portfolio of solar PV and battery energy storage projects across the U.S. This is a contract position suited to someone who can contribute immediately to complex energy financings. In this role, you will support the structuring, diligence, documentation, and execution of tax equity and debt financings for commercial and industrial renewable energy projects, typically ranging from 1MW to 20MW per site. Transactions will include both single-asset and portfolio-level financings across multiple jurisdictions. These financings are highly structured and often involve multiple capital sources simultaneously, including tax equity, construction facilities, equipment financings, and term debt. You will act as the primary internal legal lead for financing transactions and manage outside counsel to ensure efficient, timely, and cost-effective execution. Key Responsibilities
Support tax equity, construction, term, and portfolio-level debt financings Manage legal due diligence and identify key financing risks Draft and negotiate term sheets and definitive financing documentation Act as internal legal lead and coordinate outside counsel Collaborate with senior management and cross-functional teams Experience & Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership 4+ years of experience in project finance, corporate finance, or complex transactional work Law firm experience required Experience in renewable energy industry, particularly with IPPs or developers Familiarity with tax equity and/or debt financings in energy, infrastructure, or renewables Experience with financing-related legal diligence and transactional documentation Exposure to portfolio-level or multi-asset transactions is a plus Ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment Ideally looking for someone in Jersey City, NJ, but can consider East Coast remote 6 month contract position - 40 hours per week, with high potential to go permanent
