Summary The Home Equity Specialist is responsible for originating home equity loans and lines of credit while self‑sourcing new business opportunities. This role builds and maintains relationships with members and key referral partners, identifies prospective clients, and promotes the credit union’s mortgage programs. The specialist delivers an exceptional member experience by assessing financial needs, recommending appropriate solutions, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Education and Experience
High School diploma required
Minimum two years’ experience in home equity or mortgage lending originations required
NMLS certification required. Must maintain licensing and complete all related annual continuing education
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and mortgage systems (MortgageBot, DNA, Salesforce)
Excellent multitasking and time management abilities to handle multiple files and deadlines
Ability to ensure timely collection and submission of loan documents from members
Up to 50% local travel to branches to educate staff on home equity products and processes
Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently while meeting performance goals
Job Responsibilities
Originates home equity loans and lines of credit while self‑sourcing new business opportunities and meeting monthly production goals
Identifies and engages prospective clients to promote the credit union’s mortgage programs, products, and guidelines
Develops and maintains relationships with members and key referral partners, including centers of influence within the assigned region or state
Collects, reviews, and uploads required documentation to ensure applications meet departmental criteria and regulatory requirements
Maintains organized, compliant pipelines; manages time effectively to balance member appointments, application review, and branch support
Educates branch team members on home equity products and processes; serves as a subject‑matter resource
Attends networking events on behalf of the credit union and business development teams to advance networking and prospecting opportunities
Adheres to internal policies and external regulations, including SAFE Act/NMLS, BSA (Bank Secrecy Act), AML (Anti‑Money Laundering), OFAC (Office of Foreign Asset Control) and RESPA (Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act) requirements as it relates to the position
Performs other duties as needed upon request by immediate supervisor

The good faith range for this position is $40,000.00 annually plus commission eligibility. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications and operational needs. The salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
