Overview
Zurich is currently looking for an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter, Management Liability. Location options include Baltimore, Maryland Virtual Office, Owings Mills, Washington DC, or Washington DC Virtual Office. Remote work is possible for the right candidate located anywhere in the U.S. The role involves underwriting and renewal analysis for Financial Lines Products (Directors and Officers, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary Liability and Crime Insurance) for private and nonprofit companies. This is a market-facing position with a strong sales mindset. The candidate will proactively pursue renewal and new account opportunities, identify growth opportunities, and build strong relationships with retail distributors (agents and brokers) and customers to support retention and acquisition of new business. Determining customer insurance needs and providing appropriate solutions is a key responsibility. Key Accountabilities Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and relevant laws and regulations. Develop, maintain, and collaborate with Lines of Business representatives and other business needs as appropriate. Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition; work with customers and distributors to determine insurance-related needs and provide solutions. Support the organization’s sales culture by serving as a Help Point for agents, brokers, and customers. Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities. Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities. Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite while balancing solid business opportunities. Make broker/customer site visits with a planned and well-prepared purpose. Mentor team members. This role may be filled at either the Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed. Qualifications
Basic Qualifications – Underwriting Specialist High School Diploma or equivalent and 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6+ years in claims or underwriting support, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 1+ year in underwriting or market-facing area, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 4+ years in claims or underwriting support; plus Knowledge of lines of business and regulatory guidelines Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business Experience with Microsoft Office Executive Underwriter High School Diploma or equivalent and 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10+ years in claims or underwriting support, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing area, or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 8+ years in claims or underwriting support; plus Knowledge of Microsoft Office Experience working with time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business Experience working in a team environment Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong relationship-building skills Compensation and Benefits
Your pay at Zurich is based on role, location, skills, and experience. Local laws are followed for fair compensation. Bonus and merit increases may apply. The combined salary range for this position is $75,000.00 - $165,000.00. The proposed salary ranges are: Underwriting Specialist $75,000.00 - $125,000.00 (10% short-term incentive), Executive Underwriter $98,500.00 - $165,000.00 (30% Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus).
