Intermountain Foundation: Intermountain Foundation is a subsidiary of Intermountain Health whose sole purpose is to generate philanthropy in support of Intermountain’s mission. It has grown significantly, with a system-wide campaign (Primary Promise) exceeding $600M and plans for new campaigns in Nevada and Billings, Montana. The Foundation focuses on Women’s Health, Cancer, Rural Health, Behavioral Health, and Cardiovascular initiatives.
The Executive Director of Gift Planning leads strategic planning and implementation for planned giving, including donor engagement, training, and support for gift officers. This role collaborates with other philanthropic leaders and oversees complex planned gifts, estates, blended gifts, and related areas. The position maintains donor records, develops proposals, and drives system-wide planned giving strategies and campaigns.
Scope
This is a system-level, specialized position that interacts with Foundation and external audiences. It oversees strategy, fundraising activities, and staff supervision. Residence within the Intermountain Health footprint is required, with a preference for the greater Salt Lake area. Frequent travel across the system’s footprint is expected.
Job Essentials
Develops a strategic plan for the office of gift planning with aggressive short- and long-range goals and supporting metrics to meet system funding objectives.
Leads a comprehensive planned giving program, including strategy design and donor engagement processes at a system level.
Develops system-wide planned giving materials, media, and web-based programming.
Oversees and advances planned gift proposals and agreements.
Maintains a personal portfolio of planned gift donor prospects.
Produces guidelines, proposals, and content for local philanthropy officers for prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship.
Manages processes to track identification, cultivation, and solicitation of planned gifts at the system level.
Tracks and moves forward maturing planned gifts to close these gifts in a timely manner with proper valuation and acknowledgement.
Collaborates with accounting, finance, legal, and real estate to valuate and monitor complex planned gift arrangements and maintain audit-compliant records.
Conducts system-level donor engagement, recognition, and communications programs for planned gifts, including expanding a planned giving society.
Recommends recognition and recording strategies for planned gifts.
Serves as a public speaker for local Foundation offices and Intermountain Health as requested.
Is actively engaged in the community and pursues ongoing professional development in fundraising, tax, and legislative trends.
Acts as a subject matter expert on healthcare philanthropy for others.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Education is verified.
Seven years as a fundraising professional including leadership experience and demonstrated achievement in systematic major gift fundraising with program/staff management.
Three years of complex planned giving philanthropy programming and gift stewardship, including estates, trusts, tangible personal property, real estate, and appreciated assets.
Knowledge of current tax laws and planned giving vehicles; ability to teach others in basics of planned giving.
Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building across diverse groups.
Experience coordinating volunteer leadership (committees) in planned giving fundraising.
Strong analytic and creative skills to develop best practices and assess outcomes.
Strong project planning and management skills with attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
Advanced writing skills for proposals, letters, and presentations.
Effective public speaking and presentation abilities.
Success collaborating in a complex matrix organization.
Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT, planned giving software, donor records systems, internet research tools, and social media.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, philanthropic studies, public administration, public relations, communications, marketing, English, or business.
Master’s degree or Advanced Legal Degree.
Professional certification in CFRE or FAHP; Certified Planned Giving (CPG).
Fundraising experience in a healthcare environment.
Demonstrated history of increased responsibility and progression in fundraising.
Community needs awareness and engagement.
Ability to communicate information and operate standard office equipment.
Strong computer proficiency and ability to read monitors and documents for long periods.
