Objectives / Purpose Drive the execution of Pharm Sci strategy to increase business performance, organizational efficiency while accelerating CMC deliverables, including AI‑forward projects and mindset.

Job Description

Partner with PS, partners and leadership to identify, prioritize, and lead enterprise‑wide transformation initiatives, focusing on increasing CMC productivity by at least 5% per year and ensuring CMC costs remain financially sustainable with the expanding R&D portfolio.

Serve as the principal integrator and project leader for key cross‑functional programs, ensuring alignment, transparency, and delivery of measurable value across global sites.

Collaborate with lean experts and scientists to simplify processes and systems, improving agility, work life, and fostering a culture of high performance.

Scope

Drive and influence strategy, business performance, and transformation initiatives across the global Pharmaceutical Sciences organization, including Boston, Vienna, and Shonan and a network of outsourcing partners.

Lead cost optimization and business performance programs across internal and external CMC spend, partnering with Finance, R&D, Global Manufacturing & Supply, Global Quality, and Commercial functions.

Operate as an individual contributor with significant cross‑functional leadership, impacting enterprise‑wide priorities, efficiency, and cultural evolution, especially AI‑forward mindset and systems implementation.

Provide strategic partnership and advisory to the SVP, Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences on execution of organizational priorities.

Direct and mobilize cross‑functional project teams to deliver measurable outcomes in cost, speed, and simplicity.

Coordinate organization‑wide strategic planning, communications, and progress tracking for the Pharm Sci Leadership Team, including PSLT and Townhalls.

Integrate and align senior stakeholders across Finance, R&D, GMS, GQ, and others to achieve collective success.

Develop and deliver business analytics, executive presentations, and dashboards for key decision makers.

Cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative environment aligned with Takeda’s values.

Dimensions And Aspects Technical / Functional (Line) Expertise

Advanced degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline (PhD, MS, or equivalent required).

10+ years in CMC product development or related pharmaceutical/biopharma experience, with a track record of delivering complex technical/business programs at the global level.

Strong expertise in cost management, business analytics, and operational excellence (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).

Ability to simplify complex information and communicate effectively to advance business outcomes.

Visionary stakeholder alignment and team mobilization to achieve bold goals.

Outstanding communication, collaboration, and influence with senior leaders and diverse teams.

Excellent judgment, driving outcomes in complex, ambiguous environments.

Change agent building buy‑in for new ways of working and transformation initiatives.

Decision‑making and Autonomy

High autonomy in driving strategic projects, cost initiatives, and critical problem solving with direct impact on Pharm Sci results.

Advise SVP and senior leadership with evidence‑based recommendations and risk/benefit analysis.

Report to SVP, Head of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Regular engagement with Pharm Sci Leadership Team and senior stakeholders across Finance, R&D, GMS, GQ, Regulatory, and Commercial functions.

Principal coordinator for cross‑functional projects across Boston, Vienna, and Shonan.

External interactions with partners, consultants, and contract organizations as required.

Promote innovation, continuous improvement, and risk‑managed problem solving culture.

Encourage knowledge sharing and best practice adoption across teams and sites.

Apply creative and quantitative approaches to complex challenges.

Manage wide‑ranging projects spanning multiple global sites and business interfaces.

Education, Behavioural Competencies and Skills

PhD, MS, or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field (required).

Minimum of 10 years in CMC product development or related pharmaceutical/biopharma business experience.

Proven success in leading complex strategic/cost programs in a global, matrixed environment.

Exceptional communication, quantitative, analytical, and collaborative skills.

Lean/operational excellence training or practical experience preferred.

Creative, adaptable, solutions‑oriented leadership style.

High personal integrity and alignment with Takeda values.

Hybrid Classification This position is currently classified as “hybrid” by Takeda’s Hybrid and Remote Work policy.

Compensation and Benefits Summary U.S. Base Salary Range: $208,200.00 – $327,140.00. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications, experience, and location.

U.S. employees may be eligible for short‑term and/or long‑term incentives, medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, disability coverage, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, volunteer time off, company holidays, well‑being benefits, sick time (up to 80 hours per calendar year), and paid vacation (up to 120 hours for new hires).
