The Opportunity
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead our tax function. This is a highly visible role where you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of partnership taxation, including our Up-C structure and ASC 740 tax provisions. You'll play a critical role in ensuring income and non-income tax compliance, managing complex audits, and developing key tax strategies for our publicly traded company.
Location This is a hybrid position based out of our Morgantown, West Virginia, office. You'll be expected to work in the office three days a week.
What You Will Be Doing As a Senior Tax Manager for our publicly traded company, you will play a pivotal role in leading our tax functions, ensuring compliance, and driving strategic tax initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:
Working with our 3rd party partners, lead and strategically manage all aspects of Up-C partnership taxation and tax accounting, ensuring rigorous compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Assess the requirements for maintaining our 3rd party partner support relationships versus developing organic, tax-related capabilities within the company.
Direct the preparation and review of the income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including related disclosures for SEC filings.
Establish and enforce robust documentation and record-keeping standards for all income and non-income tax filings, provisions, and tax-related activities.
Serve as the primary liaison for and strategically manage complex tax audits, inquiries, and notices from federal, state, and local tax authorities.
Proactively monitor, assess, and provide strategic guidance on changes in tax laws and regulations affecting partnerships and corporate taxation, ensuring timely and effective implementation.
Develop, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive processes to monitor and mitigate tax compliance risks across the organization.
Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, legal, and operational teams to ensure accurate tax treatment of transactions and initiatives.
Your Background
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in tax management, preferably in a corporate or public accounting environment.
CPA or equivalent and Oil and Gas experience required.
In-depth knowledge of partnership tax regulations, Up-C structures, and tax planning strategies.
Experience in tax roles with a focus on partnership taxation, including experience with Up-C structures and new partnership formation and modifications.
Experience leading the preparation of the income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740.
Proven experience building and leading a team of tax professionals.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with employees, contractors, vendors, and key stakeholders.
