Department Overview GSE Underwriting is responsible for pre-screening and underwriting all Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loans.

The Impact You Will Have A Senior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting mortgages on income‑producing property in the company’s multi‑family agency lines to support the achievement of the company’s loan production goals. The primary accountability is conducting a comprehensive and thorough analysis of each transaction, resulting in a prudent decision on whether to extend credit to a borrower. Timely completion of all responsibilities is critical to our business success; senior underwriters are expected to work quickly and efficiently in moving loans from application to commitment and closing.

Primary Responsibilities

Underwriting

Establish underwriting timeline with the loan officer and closing coordinator.

Oversee generation of borrower’s checklist and introduce borrower to the information requirements.

Select contractors and initiate necessary third‑party reports (e.g., appraisal, environmental, engineering).

Conduct a due diligence review of issues related to the property’s market, location, condition, borrower, and principal mortgage credit issues.

Conduct a critical review of the appraisal, market analysis, property description, real‑estate tax analysis, zoning analysis, and comparable properties.

Review engineering and environmental reports, including seismic studies, market studies, and other necessary reports.

Conduct site and market visits.

Summarize the transaction by preparing a presentation for the Loan Committee.

Management

Directly oversee and train an underwriting analyst.

Manage timecard and PTO approval for the analyst.

Train analyst on day‑to‑day underwriting tasks and credit review.

Participate in the analyst’s review process.

Communicate and problem‑solve daily with teammates, clients, vendors, and other stakeholders.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Attendance is generally required from 8:30 am – 5:30 pm local time, Tuesday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required.

5+ years of relevant experience, including market factors for multifamily property, occupancies, rent levels, expense items, and experience with appraisers and engineering/environmental firms.

Underwriting experience with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Diverse underwriting knowledge and industry awareness.

Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate data quickly.

Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.

Ability to develop and execute solutions to complex issues and transactions.

Extensive multifamily experience across financial and product executions.

Business management experience and capacity for leadership in closing deals.

Salary and Benefits This position has an estimated base salary of $95,000 – $110,000 plus discretionary bonus.
