The Salvation Army’s South End Corps is hiring a Kids Club Director and offers an excellent benefits package to eligible employees. Duties & Responsibilities
The Director is responsible for fostering an environment that helps children, their families, and staff reach their full potential. The Director is accountable for program operations, incorporating The Salvation Army culture, philosophies, policies, and the development of an inclusive environment and positive relationships with parents/guardians, children, families, and clients. Responsibilities may vary by center/school size and client relationships. Directors are encouraged to delegate appropriately and will review important decisions with the Corps Officer(s) and Early Education Program Manager, while remaining responsive to Divisional Headquarters and EEC requirements. This description is not all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
Program
Ensure all staff implement EEC guidelines, The Salvation Army values, philosophies, and policies. Provide monthly statistics to the Early Education Program Manager. Complete monthly CCFA billing/attendance and submit to the Social Ministries Administrative Assistant. Ensure staff interact respectfully with children and maintain an inclusive environment. Provide support and resources for staff on program development. Maintain parent/guardian master files, update weekly statistics, follow telephone protocol, and conduct parent/guardian tours. Focus on marketing during key enrollment periods with assistance from the DHQ Advancement Department. Maintain ongoing marketing to sustain enrollment; market the program to the community (e.g., visits to local businesses, distributing flyers). Meet center-specific enrollment targets/goals and maintain active waiting lists. Review enrollment packets and center policies at enrollment. Adhere to licensing standards and Salvation Army standards for health and safety, nutrition, staff files, qualifications, schedules, staff/child ratios, and children’s files; ensure licenses and permits are current. Supervise staff in documenting accidents, notify parents/guardians promptly, and notify the state licensing agent as needed. Follow state regulations pertaining to incidents of abuse or neglect; keep KeepSAfe and other trainings up to date.
Hiring
Recruit staff through community outreach (colleges, high schools, minority organizations, local resources). Oversee screening, interviewing, and hiring in collaboration with the Corps Officer(s) and Early Education Program Director. Serve as a center resource for personnel policies/benefits and process bi-weekly timesheets. Conduct new hire orientation for all incoming staff.
Supervision
Ensure implementation of all staff duties as described in their job descriptions. Conduct regular observations and performance evaluations in collaboration with Corps Officer(s) and Early Education Program Manager, including development and monitoring of individual goals. Develop key staff to share leadership roles in the center. Utilize progressive counseling and, if necessary, separate staff in accordance with EEOC, legal guidelines, and company policies by working with DHQ Human Resources.
Leadership/Team Building
Establish and maintain team building among all teachers/group leaders and center staff by meeting regularly. Support positive morale, solicit input from staff, and follow up promptly. Ensure direct communication to resolve conflicts and minimize gossip. Model balanced workload, including classroom and center responsibilities as needed (e.g., kitchen, substitutions). Implement programs to achieve staff retention and reduce turnover.
Parent/Guardian Communication
Oversee ongoing staff/parent/guardian communication. Be available to parents/guardians daily and respond to concerns promptly. Share resources with parents/guardians through discussions, articles, newsletters, workshops, and community contacts.
Qualifications
Education Requirements: Must be at least 21 years of age and meet one of the following sets of requirements: Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and six months of experience with school-age children plus six months administrative experience, or evidence of nine credits in management/administration from an accredited institution; OR Have a Bachelor’s Degree in any field or an Associate’s Degree in listed fields and eighteen months working with school-age children plus six months administrative experience or evidence of nine credits in management/administration; OR Have a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience with children (two-thirds with school-age children) and one year of administrative experience or nine credits in management/administration. Work Experience: Required 3 to 5 years of management/leadership experience plus additional teaching experience. Experience with Christian Education Programs for school-age children is preferred. Other Qualifications: Current Red Cross Standard First Aid (or equivalent) and CPR; strong written and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Applications and various databases. Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel, and twist on an intermittent basis. Grasp, push, pull objects; reach overhead. Operate office equipment and devices; load and adjust settings on equipment. Operate telephone and electronic communication devices; use computers, copiers, fax machines, and scanners. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Creative, logical, and analytical thinking; ability to envision a project from beginning to end. Ability to solve complex problems and make appropriate judgments and decisions.
