Akamai Technologies, Cambridge, Massachusetts, us, 02140
Overview
Are you a highly experienced engineering leader? Join our Edge Apps Engineering group! This Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) team builds on the cutting-edge WebAssembly (Wasm) ecosystem. Our platform is highly distributed, positioned to redefine edge compute by offering a high-performance, secure, and language-agnostic alternative to AWS Lambda @ Edge and Cloudflare Workers. Responsibilities
Partner with the best: As a Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the end-to-end engineering lifecycle, from the architectural design of our global runtime to the operational implementation of our SRE practices. Supporting the technical strategy for our next-generation product infrastructure, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security for millions of concurrent executions. Owning the platform's end-to-end SLOs, upholding high standards for system availability, latency, and performance through a robust SRE practice. Developing and executing observability strategy and roadmap that aligns with SLO targets. Overseeing contributions to/investments in the open-source Wasm-based runtime and tooling, as well as our proprietary control and data-planes. Driving the implementation of secure, automated CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates to ensure consistent global delivery. Qualifications
12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or its equivalent. Proven track record of delivering high-quality, resilient, supportable software, ideally at Staff or Principal level. Experience building and scaling high-throughput distributed systems that serve live production traffic. Familiarity with serverless computing paradigms and modern cloud-native architectures (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP). Understanding of SRE principles, including error budgets, SLIs/SLOs, and automated incident management. Proficiency in IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation) and modern CI/CD frameworks (GitHub Actions, CloudBees, Jenkins). Work Style
FlexBase, Akamai's Global Flexible Working Program, provides flexible options to work from home, office, or both. We are happy to discuss working options with your recruiter when you apply. About Us
