Director of SEC Reporting

Our client, a publicly traded company in Chicago is seeking a Director of SEC Reporting. This role will lead the external reporting, disclosure controls, and accounting policy initiatives in compliance with US GAAP and SEC requirements. The position offers high visibility to senior leadership and extensive cross-functional exposure. Key Responsibilities Manage preparation, review, and filing of all SEC reports (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K). Ensure accuracy and integrity of disclosures in compliance with US GAAP, SEC, and SOX. Partner with Legal and business units to align financial disclosures across public documents. Monitor FASB and SEC changes; update policies and communicate impacts. Strengthen internal controls and support audit coordination. Lead, mentor, and develop a small team within the financial reporting function. Drive process improvements and reporting transformation initiatives. Participate in disclosure committee discussions and advise senior leadership. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required. 10+ years’ experience in public accounting and public company reporting. Deep knowledge of US GAAP, SEC, and SOX compliance. Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and simplify technical issues. Experience with Workiva, Yardi, or Longview preferred, but not required. Strong communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
