The Tax Director will lead all tax strategy, planning, compliance, and risk management activities for a growing wealth management organization serving high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, and related entities. This role is responsible for developing proactive tax strategies aligned with investment and estate planning objectives while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. The Tax Director will act as a key advisor to senior leadership, investment teams, and clients, and will manage relationships with external tax advisors.
Responsibilities
The Tax Director will oversee all aspects of tax planning and compliance for individuals, trusts, partnerships, private investment vehicles, and related entities. This includes developing and executing tax-efficient strategies in coordination with investment, estate, and financial planning teams. The role will ensure timely and accurate preparation and review of tax filings, including individual, trust, partnership, and pass-through entity returns, while monitoring changing tax laws and assessing their impact on clients and the organization. This position will provide leadership on complex tax matters such as multi-state taxation, carried interest, private equity and alternative investments, estate and gift tax planning, and structuring of family entities. The Tax Director will also manage tax audits and inquiries, oversee tax projections and estimates, and establish internal tax policies and procedures to support scalability and risk mitigation. In addition, the Tax Director will build and lead a high-performing tax team and mentor staff. The role requires close collaboration with senior leadership to support strategic initiatives, client acquisition, and long-term growth. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with a CPA (required). A minimum of 10 years of progressive tax experience is required, with significant exposure to high-net-worth individuals, trusts, partnerships, and investment-related tax matters. Experience within wealth management, family office, public accounting with private client services, or investment management environments is highly desirable. Strong technical tax knowledge, excellent judgment, and the ability to translate complex tax concepts into practical guidance are essential. The candidate must have proven leadership experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with clients, advisors, and senior executives.
