NRDC is seeking a Senior National Direct Mail Campaign Manager to work with the Membership Fundraising team in NRDC’s Development department in any of NRDC's U.S. based offices.
Position Summary
The Senior Manager should be a creative and experienced membership marketer looking to be part of a dynamic team to create compelling donor engagement and fundraising campaigns working with key program, membership, communications and digital staff along with NRDC’s direct mail marketing agency. The position reports to the Managing Director of Membership and Planned Giving.
Ideal candidates will have professional experience working with progressive environmental or advocacy organizations and/or consulting firms to utilize direct marketing tools to incentivize member giving, implement retention strategies, and new member acquisition packages.
The position you are applying for is part of the bargaining unit represented by The Washington Baltimore News Guild (WBNG / The Newsguild-CWA Local 32035).
Responsibilities
Work with NRDC’s marketing agency and Membership leadership, to write and edit clear and compelling copy for a variety of direct mail formats, including renewals, program fundraising campaigns, acknowledgments, and new member acquisition.
Collaborate on integrated campaigns with membership leadership, program and communications staff, direct marketing agency, and other creative team members to ensure a consistent brand voice and messaging across both direct mail and other channels.
Coordinate brainstorming sessions with key program staff, digital fundraisers, the direct marketing agency and membership leadership to generate creative concepts for direct mail campaigns.
Write and adapt copy for various stages of the member journey and for different segments of the target audience. The successful candidate must be able to adapt to changing requirements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Oversee copy approval including key NRDC program staff, Membership leadership, and NRDC’s office of general counsel.
Work closely with issue experts in Programs, Communications, Donor Relations and Government Affairs to stay on top of the latest program developments and membership advocacy and fundraising opportunities.
Ensure all copy adheres to brand style guidelines and maintains a consistent, compelling voice.
Write, edit, and proofread content for accuracy, clarity, and grammatical correctness.
Ensure the copy supports the overall direct response strategy, including offer strategies and a clear call-to-action.
Utilize data and research to inform copy effectiveness.
Refine and optimize copy based on campaign results.

Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree is required.
4-7 years of professional experience in direct marketing, ideally with experience working on progressive national advocacy causes and/or political or electoral campaigns
Must have a portfolio demonstrating successful experience, preferably in a direct response or direct mail marketing context.
Skills, Abilities, Competencies
Exceptional proficiency in written communication, with a keen eye for grammar, punctuation, and detail.
The ability to craft a message that not only informs but also persuades a specific audience to take action.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with creative teams and other departments.
The ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and adapt to evolving project needs and feedback.
Meticulous proofreading and fact-checking skills to ensure accuracy and quality.
Project management skills along with creativity, adaptability and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
A deep concern for the natural world, a belief in the power of grassroots action to make a difference, and a commitment to using a large membership and online citizen network to help protect the environment.
Ability to travel to NRDC U.S. based offices, approximately less than 20% annually.

NRDC operates under a hybrid work model. Employees are required to come to the office 8 days per month.
