City of Pinole - Community Services Department - Senior Recreation Leader Working for the City of Pinole is a great choice for your career and community. During programs, participants learn important life lessons about community service, teamwork, and explore new recreational activities.

Definition Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader supervises youth, teenagers ages 5‑17, and senior center programs at the Youth Center, Tiny Tots facility, and Senior Center in the following program areas: youth sports, arts and crafts, excursions, games, special events, senior programs, and activities. The Recreation Leader will attend all scheduled staff trainings and work 1‑5 days per week during the school year, within the hours of 1:30 pm‑6 pm, plus some evenings and weekend hours. Hours will increase during the summer months as the Pinole Youth Center extends its hours to 7 am‑6:30 pm, plus some evenings and weekend hours.

Supervision Received and Exercised Reports to and receives direct supervision from the Recreation Coordinator.

Duties

Develop, organize, and lead recreational programs and activities including games, sports, arts and crafts, excursions, and special events.

Oversee programs at the Pinole Youth Center and Pinole Tiny Tots Center for children, youth, and teens, including preschool, after‑school, and summer programs; direct summer camps for children, youth, and teens, and Senior Center activities for seniors, including daily programs and summer trips.

Help manage a diverse group of children, teens, and seniors who attend and participate in City Recreation Programs and activities.

Monitor and enforce City rules and regulations at facilities and during excursions.

Provide strong leadership and role modeling with diverse populations of youth, teenagers, and seniors.

Communicate effectively with parents, community members, school officials, City police, and community groups regarding youth and program activities.

Other essential responsibilities include: effective oral communication; walking or running for extended times over various distances; using good judgment; relating to youth, teenagers, and seniors; acting courteously toward others; taking direction from supervisors; maintaining good working relationships with other staff members and parents; accepting criticism and applying it to performance; being dependable in meeting scheduled assignments; and working extended hours when required.

Education and Experience Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Must be at least 18 years of age and must have graduated from high school (or equivalent to a high school education).

Must have a strong desire and aptitude for working with all age groups from youth, teenagers, and seniors, exercise sound leadership practices, appropriate disciplinary measures, extreme patience, and have the ability to function with a minimum of direction and supervision.

Must be able to plan and implement activities appropriate to the City’s Recreation Center environment.

License Must possess and maintain a valid California class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and may be required to obtain a class B license with passenger endorsement. Must possess a valid Standard First Aid and CPR verification at the time of employment (or be able to obtain one within one month of employment). Must have a recent (within one year) negative TB test or complete a TB test prior to commencement of employment. Experience driving a 15‑passenger vehicle is desirable.
