The City of Aliso Viejo is looking for motivated part-time team members in the Recreation & Community Services Department! Recreation Leaders in our summertime City Day Camp program will lead activities such as recreational games and fundamentals of sports, exploration of arts and crafts, and excursions. We are currently accepting applications until vacancies are filled. THE POSITION: A part-time, entry-level position performing a variety of responsibilities within the Recreation and Community Services Department including assisting in the daily operations of recreation facilities, preparing facility and room setups, monitoring facility rentals, organizing a variety of recreation activities and special events.

Receives direct and general supervision from the Recreation and Community Services management staff.

Assists with facility reservations and registering patrons for classes.

Assists in planning and conducting special events, programs, and facility rentals; set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment.

Assists with general office duties, including basic cashiering, answering telephones, greeting patrons, data entry, copying and filing.

Monitors the proper and safe use of facilities by the general public.

Responds to patron's needs for assistance and information.

Performs basic custodial duties and minor facility maintenance.

Provides on-site supervision of volunteers.

Provides supervision of daily facility operations.

Assists with staff training and classes.

May be required to drive City vehicles.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Of: Basic objectives, methods and techniques of community recreation programs; basic community center maintenance and facility setup; safe work practices; child development; arts and crafts and/or indoor and outdoor games; standard office practices and procedures, including the use of office equipment, basic record keeping, math, and computer applications.

Ability To: Plan and organize recreation programs for youth and adults; create a team atmosphere; exhibit initiative, creativity, and responsibility; handle stressful or sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy; communicate, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; appear for work on time; follow directions from a supervisor; understand and follow posted work rules and procedures; accept constructive criticism; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, specifically participants, parents, co-workers, and school site staff.

Education/Training/Experience: Any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates ability to perform the duties of the position. The typical qualifying entrance background is:

Graduation from high school.

Applicant must be 18 years or older.

Available to work a varied schedule Monday - Sunday including days, evenings and weekends.

Physical Demands: The position requires constant sitting and occasional walking and standing; the employee talks and hears, both in person and by telephone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee uses hands to operate, finger, handle or feel office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee bends, stoops, or squats to access, place and retrieve files, supplies and records, and reaches, lifts, and move records and documents weighing up to 20 pounds.

Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data; use math and mathematical reasoning; analyze and solve problems; learn and apply new information; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; meet intensive and changing deadlines and interact with City officials, City staff, customers and the public.

Work Environment: The employee typically works in office conditions; the noise level is frequently quiet or moderately quiet. However, can work at and travel to different centers and facilities on different shifts in order to conduct and monitor community services, programs, and events.

Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements: Ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license and maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Policy. May be required to obtain First Aid and CPR certificates recognized by the American Red Cross, or similar agency.
