Counselor – Sacred Heart Catholic School – Uvalde, TX
Full‑time position reporting to the Principal.
Summary The School Counselor, under the supervision of the Principal and the Vice‑Principal, provides educational, career, social, and personal counseling for all students to support each child’s optimal development and fulfill the mission and philosophy of the school.
Position Responsibilities
Model Gospel values and Catholic Church teachings.
Support and adhere to Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and relevant policies.
Maintain confidentiality of school matters, student information, and donor details.
Adhere to safety training, protocols, and precautionary measures.
Implement a comprehensive counseling program (classroom guidance, individual counseling, small‑group counseling, crisis counseling, and consultation services).
Coordinate the campus guidance program with administration and staff.
Guide students in educational and career planning.
Attend discipline, attendance, and academic review committee meetings as needed.
Provide consultation to administration, staff, and parents on student development.
Maintain files and documentation per school and archdiocese policies.
Make referrals to community providers and specialists when necessary.
Utilize data for counseling program evaluation and planning.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Counseling or related mental‑health field (licensure or certification preferred).
Master’s degree in Psychology or Social Work with courses addressing counseling theory, adolescent psychology, career information and development, multicultural counseling, vocational, academic, and career testing.
Minimum of one year of experience in a school setting.
Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance.
Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment requirements and background screening.
Good critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.
