Used Car Manager Salary: $180K - $230K/Year
Job Description Used Car Manager Purpose:
Ensures customer retention and profitability of the used‑vehicle profit center by recruiting qualified sales personnel. Assumes responsibility for buying, reconditioning, displaying, and merchandising the used vehicle inventory. \ Duties and Responsibilities
Forecast goals and objectives for sales, gross, and key expenses monthly and annually.
Hire, motivate, counsel, and monitor performance of all used‑vehicle sales employees.
Prepare and administer an annual operating forecast and budget for the used‑vehicle sales department.
Understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations affecting used‑vehicle sales.
Direct and schedule the activities of all department employees, ensuring proper staffing at all times.
Assist individual salespeople in setting aggressive yet realistic monthly goals and provide them with support to meet these goals.
Ensure proper follow‑up of all potential buyers by developing, implementing, and monitoring a prospecting and sales control system.
Develop, implement, and monitor a follow‑up system for used‑vehicle purchasers.
Maintain vehicle inventory and monitor customer preferences, lost sales, dealership sales history, and conduct local market analyses to determine vehicles to stock.
Conduct daily and weekly sales and sales‑training meetings.
Establish and enforce product‑knowledge standards.
Oversee used‑vehicle salespeople to enhance the image and customer satisfaction ratings of the dealership.
Communicate daily with the new‑vehicle sales manager regarding units needed for used‑vehicle inventory.
Ensure salespeople are informed of all new inventory and current advertising efforts, including special sales.
Appraise all incoming used vehicles and ensure cosmetic and mechanical reconditioning is performed within dealership cost and time limits.
Plan and control the display of used vehicles and establish delivery procedures, including service department introduction and scheduling first service appointment.
Assist in advertising campaign development and other promotions.
Keep abreast of auto auction activity and prices, attend auctions regularly, and approve all paperwork from auctions with proper documentation.
Notify used vehicle department manager of anticipated delivery of purchases.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum two years of automotive sales and/or sales management experience.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Authorized to work in the USA.
Must perform duties and responsibilities in a safe manner.
Must be able to demonstrate ability to pass pre‑employment testing including background checks, MVR, drug test, credit report, and valid driver license.
