The Role at a Glance
The Head of Fixed Income is a senior leader within Lincoln Financial’s Investments organization, responsible for shaping, executing, and overseeing fixed income investment strategies that support the company’s insurance businesses, enterprise objectives, and long‑term financial performance. This role serves as a strategic partner to actuarial, ALM, finance, risk, and business unit leadership, ensuring optimal alignment of assets and liabilities across portfolios while driving risk‑adjusted returns consistent with Lincoln’s risk appetite and regulatory frameworks.
What you’ll be doing
Lead the design, enhancement, and execution of fixed income strategies across all insurance legal entities and business lines.
Ensure alignment of fixed income portfolios with enterprise risk appetite, capital, liquidity, and asset–liability management objectives.
Oversee integration of fixed income strategy into new business pricing and in‑force portfolio optimization.
Partner with asset teams to identify, evaluate, and approve new asset classes and fixed income strategies consistent with evolving business and regulatory needs (including U.S. and Bermuda frameworks).
Lead selection, oversight, and performance management of internal and external fixed income managers.
Develop and maintain performance benchmarks and frameworks to evaluate manager effectiveness.
Drive co‑investment sourcing and underwriting in partnership with asset managers.
Oversee the development and enhancement of quantitative modeling, stress testing, and scenario analysis frameworks to optimize portfolio allocations.
Monitor and report on portfolio performance, risk positioning, liquidity, concentrations, and investment activity to senior stakeholders.
Ensure robust governance, documentation, and compliance consistent with regulatory and accounting standards.
Strategic & Cross‑Functional Leadership
Serve as a key liaison to actuarial, ALM, finance, risk, treasury, and business unit leaders, fostering cross‑functional alignment.
Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team, promoting innovation, analytical rigor, and continuous improvement.
Communicate complex fixed income strategies and recommendations clearly and persuasively to senior stakeholders and external partners.
Conduct investment due diligence on portfolios associated with reinsurance, M&A, or other strategic transactions.
Provide analysis and recommendations to support enterprise strategic decisions.
Continuous Improvement & Industry Insight
Drive process improvements to enhance quality and effectiveness of fixed income portfolio management.
Stay current on regulatory developments, market trends, and emerging best practices, incorporating insights into strategy and execution.
What we’re looking for
Experienced leader with 10+ years in insurance asset management, fixed income portfolio management, liability‑driven investing, or related fields.
Deep understanding of insurance balance sheets, asset–liability management, U.S. RBC and Bermuda regulatory regimes, and GAAP/statutory accounting.
Proven ability to lead teams and build consensus across highly cross‑functional environments.
Strong analytical capabilities and ability to synthesize large and complex data sets.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the presence to influence senior executives.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, quantitative discipline, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
CFA preferred but not required.
Travel: up to 25%.
