The mission of the University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA) is to enhance and advance the relationship between the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and all its alumni; to inspire lifelong loyalty and pride among alumni and friends by strengthening their relationship with the University; and to educate the public about the value of the University and its alumni. The objectives of this Association are educational and charitable. The Association functions as an advocate for the alumni and the University by informing interested parties of current issues, events, and accomplishments of alumni and the University. In fulfilling its mission, the Association may provide a variety of services to the University and its alumni. ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE
The University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA) President reports directly to the Board of Directors of the 501c3 corporation. For all other alumni relations activities, the UIAA President will maintain an ongoing dialogue with the Chancellor of UIUC. As an integral member of the University of Illinois advancement community, the UIAA President serves on the Chancellor’s Executive Leadership Team. ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Director of Business Development is responsible for working with the VP of Marketing and Business Development and other members of the team to achieve the revenue goals through the management and execution of the corporate partner, marketing/advertising program, including the consultative sales and activation process; managing and executing the fulfillment and acknowledgement process; executing the deliverables and production process; managing and executing the corporate partner activation plans and regular partner communications. MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Consultative Sales and New Partnership Development (50%)
Manages a lead management system for identifying, evaluating, and managing business partners (categories and brands) and current business partners. Identifies and qualifies new prospective partners and calls on them to initiate sponsorship/advertising conversations. Execute consultative partnership outreach process across all assets (affinity programs, sponsorships); this process includes understanding the partners business objectives and matching them with UIAA outreach opportunities that fit the partners goals. Prepare partner presentations and lead prospective client meetings to help demonstrate ROI for current and prospective clients. Account Management and Activation Fulfillment (35%)
Manage day-to-day fulfillment and tracking of activation commitments; coordinate with internal departments to implement activation components; Manages the traffic / production schedules, and collection of marketing and advertising materials. Works with digital team to analyze and compile data to share with partners. In coordination with the President, manage affinity/royalty programs (credit/debit card, insurance) As a part of stewarding and retaining partners, prepare activation summaries for partners. Facilitate collaboration to maintain current list of assets; develop partnership proposals with agreed activation components; Lead the internal Business Development Working Team and serve as a regular liaison to the ad hoc Revenue Committee of the Board. In coordination with the Director of Marketing, manage traffic/production schedules and collection of partnership materials; maintain Business Development web section and keep partnership information current. Business Development Operations (15%)
Writes partnership agreements/contracts, sharing with internal partners as appropriate. Maintains Business Development section on the website to ensure all partnership information is current. Performs other duties and tasks as requested. JOB QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Minimum of 3-5years of related work experience. Prior experience in sponsorship/corporate partnership sales and activation fulfillment with other nonprofit, athletics, or multi-media rights organization is preferred. Prior experience with a sponsorship management platform is preferred. Demonstrated project management skills. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with team members from all departments, as well as externally with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality. Strong attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials. Must be able to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands. Position requires willingness to travel locally, and to work nights and weekends as required. EDUCATION AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business, Marketing or Communication, or a related discipline. Appointment Information
