The Executive Director serves as the primary executive officer of St. Louis Youth Soccer Association (SLYSA) and reports directly to the President of the Board of Directors. This role provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all aspects of the organization, including league operations, staff leadership, financial management, facilities, and external relations.
The Executive Director is responsible for executing the organization’s mission, ensuring long-term sustainability, and fostering strong relationships across the soccer landscape. This position oversees a $4–$5 million annual budget and leads approximately 20 direct and indirect reports (includes seasonal staff).
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance
Lead the development and execution of SLYSA’s strategic vision and long-term plans. Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, providing regular updates on organizational performance, strategic initiatives, and emerging risks. Ensure organizational compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as governing body requirements (i.e., MYSA, USYSA, US Club, SISL). Uphold strong nonprofit governance practices and organizational accountability. League Operations & Program Oversight
Oversee efficient and accurate administration of league play, scheduling, bracketing, and competition management. Maintain strong relationships with clubs, directors, and stakeholders to support retention, growth, and collaboration. Ensure league policies and procedures are applied consistently and transparently. Anticipate and respond to changes in the youth soccer landscape and governing body requirements. Organizational Leadership & Human Resources
Lead, manage, and develop a diverse team of approximately 20 direct and indirect reports (includes seasonal staff). Make all hiring, performance management, disciplinary, and termination decisions. Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing organizational culture. Establish compensation, evaluation, and professional development frameworks. Ensure compliance with all employment and labor laws. Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting practices, and contractual obligations. Develop multi-year financial plans that support organizational sustainability and growth. Identify and execute revenue-generating opportunities such as facility usage, sponsorships, and partnerships. Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and audit processes. Facilities & Asset Management
Oversee management and maintenance of the SLYSA Soccer Complex to ensure it remains a premier regional facility. Manage vendor relationships and contracts related to field maintenance, irrigation, and facility operations. Ensure facilities meet safety standards, league regulations, and tournament requirements. Lead long-term capital planning and maintenance strategies. External Relations & Advocacy
Serve as the public spokesperson and ambassador for SLYSA. Build and maintain strong partnerships with clubs, vendors, sponsors, municipalities, and governing organizations. Represent SLYSA within local, regional, and national soccer organizations. Navigate conflict resolution and stakeholder negotiations when necessary. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, degree in business, nonprofit management, or related field preferred. Minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience, including senior-level management. Experience in soccer is preferred. Demonstrated experience managing complex operations and multi-million-dollar budgets. Proven ability to lead teams, build relationships, and work collaboratively with a Board of Directors. Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by league and event schedules. Valid driver’s license. Compensation

The St. Louis Youth Soccer Association is a non‑profit organization founded in 1975. SLYSA operates competitive soccer leagues for boys and girls, ages 6 to 19. The mission of the organization is to develop, promote, and provide top‑level competition for youth soccer in the greater St. Louis area. The league has grown to over 15,000 boys and girls representing over 1,200 teams. SLYSA is completely self‑funded and only receives revenue from league fees, advertising fees, and donations. The organization owns & operates a soccer complex located in St. Charles County. The facility consists of 104 acres of land and has 17 fields. It is the largest soccer complex in the St. Louis area. The multi‑million dollar complex was created by and is owned by the member clubs and teams.
