Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. (MHIA) is looking for a Sr. Director of Engineering to join our team. This is a remote role with travel requirements based out of our Ashburn, VA location.

Scope The Sr. Director of Engineering Services will lead and grow MHIA DCEM's design engineering practice across the United States, with responsibility for full P&L management, talent acquisition, and technical delivery excellence. This executive role combines hands‑on engineering leadership with business development accountability, driving revenue growth while maintaining the highest standards of MEP design quality for mission‑critical data center facilities.
Core Responsibilities P&L and Financial Management
Own full P&L responsibility for the Engineering Services division, including revenue targets, project profitability, and cost management
Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets; prepare financial forecasts and variance analyses
Establish project pricing models, utilization targets, and resource allocation strategies to maximize profitability
Report financial and operational performance to executive leadership through regular business reviews
Talent Acquisition and Team Leadership
Build and scale a high‑performing engineering team through strategic hiring, onboarding, and retention programs
Recruit, mentor, and develop licensed Professional Engineers (PE) and design professionals across mechanical and electrical disciplines
Establish performance management frameworks, career development paths, and succession planning
Foster an engineering culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Technical Leadership and Design Oversight
Provide technical direction and quality assurance for all MEP design deliverables on data center projects
Establish and maintain design standards, engineering guidelines, and QA/QC processes for mission‑critical facilities
Lead technical reviews and serve as senior technical authority on complex engineering challenges
Stay current with emerging data center technologies including liquid cooling, high‑density power distribution, and energy efficiency solutions
Business Development and Client Relations
Drive revenue growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities with hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise clients
Develop and present engineering proposals, fee estimates, and scope of work documents
Cultivate long‑term client relationships and serve as executive sponsor on key accounts
Represent MHI DCEM at industry conferences, trade shows, and technical forums
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in MEP engineering, with at least 5 years in senior leadership roles
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Demonstrated experience in data center or mission‑critical facility design
Proven track record of P&L management and financial accountability for engineering operations
Experience building and managing engineering teams of 10+ professionals
Strong understanding of low and medium voltage power systems, cooling infrastructure, and mechanical systems
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field
Experience with consulting engineering firm operations and client service delivery
Background in hyperscale data center programs (100+ MW facilities)
Familiarity with modular or prefabricated data center solutions
LEED AP, CEM, or other sustainability certifications
Experience working with Japanese corporations or in bi‑regional (US/Japan) business environments

Strategic thinking with ability to translate business objectives into engineering execution
Executive presence and ability to engage effectively with C‑suite clients and stakeholders
Strong financial acumen including budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical and business audiences
Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent
Results‑oriented leadership with commitment to quality and client satisfaction
Travel Requirements This position requires approximately 25–40% travel, including client site visits, project locations, and periodic travel to MHI offices.
