Job Opportunity Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Technician (UT) to join our West Region Casualty team in Los Angeles. The Underwriting Technician performs tasks to directly support all aspects of the underwriting team and underwriting process, including but not limited to data collection, analysis, proposal creation, policy binding and post-binding servicing. The Underwriting Technician works directly with all departments within our Casualty organization while coordinating information flow and operational support, as well as our external broker partners by supporting the teams’ marketing and policy issuance efforts.
Duties & Responsibilities
Support underwriters with all activities related to account development and management of submissions.
Assist underwriters in data analysis and account assessment as well as the preparation of quotes, binders and policies.
Maintain underwriting files and ensure file integrity.
Correspond with brokers; follow‑up on outstanding information.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, multi‑task and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
Coordinate policy issuance and liaise with Operations team.
Qualifications, Skills And Experience
Minimum 3‑5 years professional experience
General understanding of insurance industry functionality
Strong customer service skills for broker interfacing
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Proven attention to detail, particularly in drafting documents and preparing invoices
Must be proactive and able to work within a team environment
Self‑starter; ability to support and build workflow and process
Strong communication skills; both verbal and written
Strong competency in MS Office applications

The base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000 along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
