
Overview
American Cruise Lines is seeking a flexible and dynamic individual to deliver training for senior shipboard marine officers at our Training Center in Salt Lake City, UT and at various locations around the country on board our fleet of ships. Our ideal candidate should be a USCG licensed Master Mariner with extensive experience in the maritime industry. They should be familiar with near coastal and riverine vessel operations, and advanced ship handling techniques with both conventional and Azimuth-Drive propulsion systems. This candidate must be a committed role model for our shipboard officers, capable of working both autonomously as well as in teams, while always acting in alignment with our company mission and values.

Responsibilities
Adhere to company shipboard policies, procedures, and standards including grooming and uniform/attire standards, acting as a role model for current and prospective shipboard officers.
Conduct in-person classroom and simulator training sessions for senior shipboard officers (Captains, River NavMate Pilots and Coastal Mates).
Develop metrics to help analyze the effectiveness of training, with managers, continual performance improvement of shipboard officers in the fleet.
Collaborate with the company's management to identify training needs and schedules.
Develop and monitor systems to ensure shipboard officers are performing their responsibilities in accordance with company policy and training.
Create curriculum (including but not limited to classroom presentations and simulator exercises) that challenges the abilities and further the development of the senior shipboard officers.
Make regular visits to vessels, both as a shoreside representative and occasionally as a shipboard officer, to ensure standard practices taught in the Training Center are being followed and that the provided training aligns with industry best practices in the fleet.
Cultivate and inspire employees to have a never-ending appetite for learning to broaden their knowledge.
This position reports directly to the Marine Training & Development Sr Manager.
Qualifications
Licensed Mariner with at least a 100T Near-Coastal Master credential.
Proven performance and growth in the maritime industry.
Experience as a field-level trainer, assessor or similar role in the maritime industry.
Strong organization and time management skills to prioritize tasks and achieve goals.
Practical problem-solving skills and ability to model and develop the same in others.
Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills that inspire and engage.
The ability to research perform advanced and analytical assessments to find reliable and relevant content for the senior shipboard officers.
A high empathy understanding of effective teaching methodologies, including the willingness to keep abreast of new techniques in professional education.
Committed continual learner, demonstrating personal and professional growth through education and training.
Working knowledge in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams, Zoom).
Work Environment
Daily in-person training and development work at our Training Center in Salt Lake City, UT.
Periodic travel (10% of work weeks) to various locations around the country on board our fleet of ships.
Professional fast-paced environment with a demanding time schedule.
Work Schedule
Monday – Friday (8am - 5pm) routine training schedule at Training Center, with some weekend and shift work (4am - 1pm or 1pm - 10pm) during the start of the cruising season (typically February to April).
Sail as relief NavMate River Pilot and/or Coastal Mate regularly, averaging 10-20 days annually aboard vessels in our fleet. These assignments are typically in 7-10 day periods on a semi-annual basis, sailing across regional routes in order to retain recency and a keen awareness of fleet requirements.
