
Public Relations Specialist II - Executive PR Specialist

Overview
The MDCPS Executive Public Relations Specialist is a direct report to the Commissioner of the Agency. This role will prepare and organize strategic material in support of senior leadership meetings, projects and critical business information to the Commissioner. This role will ensure that meeting materials and space are efficient and effective. The role must interact with a professional demeanor across a broad range of individuals and organizations. To perform this job successfully, the individual is expected to handle highly sensitive and confidential information while exercising professionalism and discretion.
Responsibilities
Second-level professional accountable for more complex research and communication strategies in providing information to the press, legislature, and the public.
Assigned work may be more complex or controversial and may require decisions to be made using overarching guidelines rather than clearly defined procedures.
May act as an agency liaison, disseminating information to the legislature, newspapers, radio, television, communication networks, and internet-based media.
Work directly with the Commissioner and Senior Leadership team to support all aspects of their daily work routines in coordination with our External Affairs team.
Gathering documents to prepare for meetings with the legislature and the public.
Coordinating and accompanying the Commissioner and members of SLT to meetings as requested to assist with logistics and follow up.
Answering and returning phone calls when necessary.
Maintain and organize documents for the Commissioner and Senior Leadership team related to legislative and public partners.
Maintaining confidential records.
Serve as liaison between Commissioner and other MDCPS leadership and personnel.
Attend meetings and take notes of discussion; prepare the initial draft of minutes and summaries as requested.
Compose and prepare letters relating to routine correspondence for the Commissioner’s signature.
Complete a variety of special projects including creating PowerPoint presentations, special reports, and agenda material.
