
Financial Aid Advisor

The primary purpose of this role is to support student counseling services in order to meet increasing demand from new accepted students. This position assists in ensuring students receive timely, accurate guidance to support their academic and financial success.
Part-time for 20-25 hours/week from February to August with some evening and weekend availability preferred.
CORE DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proactive outreach to accepted students and provide general counseling on financial aid for new students
Ensures timely FAFSA submission and Cal Grant deadline compliance
Counsel new and deposited students/families on financial aid options and other opportunities to fund their education
Dedicated capacity for loan counseling, both PLUS and Private
Phone, email and text outreach to student/families to follow up on aid/payment next steps and FA requirements
Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS and EDUCATION: Requires a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and at least 1-2 years of financial aid experience, general knowledge of federal and CA state financial aid programs, excellent customer service skills, verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency. Knowledge of student loan counseling, including federal and private loan options, repayment plans, deferment/forbearance, and loan forgiveness programs.
PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:
Knowledge of SCT Banner computer system is desirable.
Ability to identify conflicting FAFSA information is preferred.
