Non-exempt SUMMARY: In this role you will finish custom engineered metal products to the surface finish required by our customers. You will work with a team of talented fabricators where collaboration and communication are key to completing projects on time and to customer specifications. You will train others in polishing and finishing processes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: While working under close supervision - Read and understand fabrication drawings. Determine required surface finish and locations on metal parts, assemblies, or weldments. Use grinders, buff wheels, and other tools, to grind and polish to required surface finish. Processes required paperwork according to Standard Operating Procedures. Maintain a clean, organized and safe working area. Support training of personnel in established polishing and finishing processes All other duties as assigned by shop supervision. NO SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: HS Diploma, GED or equivalent 3-5 years of metal finishing experience and knowledge of sanitary surface finishes (grinding, graining, brushing, random orbital) on stainless steel. Prior training in Lean Manufacturing and work experience in a Lean environment is highly desirable. SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability read and understand fabrication drawings to determine required surface finish and other specifications. Ability to use standard measuring equipment to measure dimensions and surface finishes. Ability to operate a forklift. Ability to move heavy and/or large items using a forklift or overhead crane. The desire and ability to train less experienced polishers. Ability to organize work and communicate effectively and professionally with coworkers. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to answer questions effectively before small groups of customers or departmental meetings. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals Experience with grinders, buff wheels, stroke sanders, and other hand tools used to modify surface finish of stainless steel, steel, and aluminum products. Experience in rigging. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
