WUCF seeks experienced candidates to join their team as a Senior Broadcast Engineer. The Broadcast Engineer II will serve as the Senior Broadcast Engineer for WUCF TV & FM. The position will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the broadcast engineering/operations team. This position will maintain and repair high voltage broadcast transmitters. The Senior Broadcast Engineer will manage the physical plant including studios, tower sites, transmitter buildings and office buildings. Classification Title:
Broadcast Engineer II Responsibilities
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the broadcast engineering unit and operations unit team, while also being an active hands-on/boots on the ground part of the team. Maintain and repair the radio and TV high power broadcast transmitters. Troubleshoot and solve equipment and air chain issues quickly and efficiently. Recognize and work safely, including subordinate safety training and compliance around high voltages and other dangers including the one-million-watt ERP TV transmitter. Manage the design and implementation of engineering designs of electronic systems/equipment utilizing CAD/Visio software. Able to lift 50 pounds and work on step ladders to repair and install equipment and maintain physical plant. Serve as the primary 24/7/365 broadcast engineering emergency contact during unattended nights, weekends and university holidays. Maintain a 24/7/365 local presence to respond to broadcast engineering emergencies or delegate appropriate staff for local on-call coverage. Manage the WUCF owned FM broadcast tower site, including tower cellphone lease clients and related contracts; coordinate with UCF General Counsel on legal contracts for antenna modifications; oversee structural engineers and tower maintenance with UCF Facilities and Planning Design and Construction. Maintain and repair technical equipment and physical plant including studios, tower sites, transmitter buildings, and office buildings, as well as AV equipment and systems (streaming devices, IP audio/video, editors, switchers, routing, encoders/decoders, automation, and storage). Prepare annual engineering/operation capital and operating/maintenance budgets. Manage quotes and bid solicitations; act as primary liaison on projects with outside vendors and university departments. Act as the FCC legally designated Chief Operator for both WUCF TV and WUCF FM. Manage technical compliance with regulatory agencies including the FCC and FAA for tower regulations. All other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 6+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6). Preferred Qualifications
Experience with high power TV and Radio transmitters. Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) Certification. Ability to maintain broadcast towers and antennas. The Most Successful Candidates May Possess The Following Qualities
