Job Description/Summary WTOC has an excellent career opportunity for a full‑time Broadcast Engineer in our Technology Department. Our team is responsible for supporting all technical and physical aspects of our broadcast facilities. The engineer interacts with all station staff daily to address operational needs and challenges; they must both technical and non‑technical staff. Duties include troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing broadcast RF, AV, and IT systems and software. This is a hands‑on job; applicants will use tools and test equipment to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, takes pride in their work, and is able to quickly implement creative solutions in sometimes high‑stress situations.
Responsibilities
Performs regular maintenance of broadcast and IT support systems
Support engineering aspects for studio production, post‑production, and remote field‑production events and programs
Maintain advanced knowledge of current broadcast equipment, technology, and software
Ensures all equipment is operating correctly before and during live event telecasts – corrects and documents technical problems
Cross‑trains other members of the technical staff and improves/updates facility documentation
Qualifications
A bachelor's Degree or similar certification is preferred, but is not required
Experience with professional audio/video equipment, software, and techniques
Knowledge of control‑room automation and newsroom software is a plus
Proficient with the latest computer operating systems, networking, and IP addressing
Ability to learn and adapt quickly under pressure, while maintaining efficiency and composure
Must possess a positive work attitude, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work well with others
Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks while maintaining quality standards
Must be able to work varying hours, including weekends and holidays
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are mandatory
Applicants should be capable of performing basic physical tasks involving bending/lifting up to 50lb
Occasional travel required, and working outdoors in a limited capacity under a variety of weather conditions
