SUMMARY The Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) plays a vital role in the outreach efforts of the Humane Society of Central Illinois (HSCI). Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement (DCE), this position will coordinate and implement small to mid-sized community events, drive volunteer engagement and retention, and manage HSCI’s presence on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, & YouTube in collaboration with the DCE. The CEC will also serve as the lead liaison for volunteer recruitment and scheduling related to both events and day-to-day support at the shelter.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, coordinate, and execute small to mid-sized local fundraising and awareness events
Partner with local businesses and organizations to support HSCI events and campaigns
Create and publish engaging social media content on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
Assist in planning and logistics for large-scale fundraising events in coordination with DCE.
Lead volunteer recruitment, scheduling, and communications
Promote and support the Friends of HSCI Program with community partners
Maintain accurate records of events, contacts, volunteers, and social media metrics
Support communication and coordination of the HSCI PAWtners Program
Update and maintain a master calendar of events
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Execute detailed planning for small adoption events
Collaborate on real-time and scheduled social media content, including stories, reels, and posts
Serve as a point of contact for volunteers, providing onboarding and training for event participation
Work collaboratively with shelter staff, board members, and the DCE to promote events and fulfill volunteer needs
Manage setup, breakdown, and onsite logistics for events
Track and analyze the effectiveness of events and social media outreach with DCE
QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of experience in event planning or volunteer coordination
Two or more years of college education (preferred)
Familiarity with nonprofit organizations or mission-driven work
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Working knowledge of major social media platforms, including live features and engagement strategies
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Drive and CapCut
Self-starter with strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Must be comfortable working in fast-paced and flexible environments
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, walk stairs, and stand for extended periods
