Purpose As a Senior Structural Designer, you will independently coordinate the design and layout of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing. You will perform simple and complex analyses, meet technical requirements, and achieve customer goals and preferences. You will also serve as BFS's representative to customers and other third parties in the design, purchase, and construction of residential roof and floor systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Act as BFS's representative to customers and third parties in design, purchase, and construction of residential roof and floor systems.
Independently perform simple and complex analyses while designing residential roof and floor systems and producing layouts.
Interact daily with customers to evaluate their needs and technical requirements; review layouts, analyze information, and provide expert advice and recommendations.
Develop and complete detailed designs from customer concept drawings.
Use independent judgment and discretion to select design materials, produce materials lists, and perform structural alterations as needed.
Research and oversee all construction design documents, management, and contracts; determine special notes to append to contracts.
Independently present, coordinate, sell, and follow‑up on all new jobs.
Proactively discuss changes and corrections with engineers, architects, and contractors before and during construction.
Ensure conformance to all relevant building requirements and municipality building codes.
Independently develop solutions to challenges presented by customers within budget, schedule, and project constraints.
Design residential roof and floor systems and produce layouts; review layouts with customers.
Perform site inspections as needed.
Independently resolve architectural and design discrepancies.
Proactively develop and recommend implementation of new or adapted policies, practices, procedures, and techniques.
Assist in training new associates when required.
Demonstrate commitment to quality improvement and continuous improvement.
Perform other duties as necessary in matters of significance.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (applicable work experience may substitute for education).
4+ years of drafting experience in a construction or building‑materials related industry.
Competencies
Proficient technical writing skills.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret architectural blueprints.
Tech‑savvy with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and other design programs; ease of learning in‑house software.
MITEK software knowledge a plus.
Work Environment / Physical Activity
Typical office environment and outside locations with weather variations.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds occasionally.
