
Overview
Interpret and follow engineering standards for assigned projects. Use CAD and other software to develop engineering designs. Perform route analysis and develop aerial and underground fiber route maps. Handle fiber verification and mapping activities. Maintain records of fiber splicing and topography.
Duties / Responsibilities
Develop mitigation and restoration procedures for emergencies conditions such as fiber damages, power failures and other disasters.
Perform construction and maintenance of OSP infrastructure according to industry standards.
Maintain safety and security of OSP facility.
Determine scope, budget and schedules for OSP projects.
Monitor and control expenses within allotted budget.
Communicate project status to Managers on weekly basis.
Complete the assigned projects within the defined scope and timelines.
Perform routine inspection of OSP networks.
Get state and local permits as required to execute OSP projects.
Assist in the installation and splicing of fiber optic cables and new underground network facilities when required.
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent; College level courses in AutoCAD drafting/CATV design desired
At least 3 years hands-on/field experience designing and construction of Outside Plant Copper and Fiber Optic Cable (UG, Aerial, Buried, BICS) and manhole and conduit design.
Strong background in fiber plant support services
Knowledge of permitting process
Must understand the underlying theories and concepts of broadband communication and including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks
Industry-related experience preferred.
