Retail Packaging Expert – 2D/3D Design & AI‑Driven Generation Type & Location
Full‑time – Onsite, New York / New Jersey Area (Hybrid) Role Summary
We are seeking a Retail Packaging Expert with deep hands‑on experience in 2D and 3D packaging drawings and a strong understanding of AI‑based design generation. This role bridges packaging engineering, design systems, and next‑generation AI tools to accelerate packaging innovation, improve manufacturability, and optimize retail readiness. Key Responsibilities
Develop, review, and validate 2D dielines and 3D packaging models (folding cartons, corrugate, rigid, flexible). Translate brand, product, and retail requirements into production‑ready packaging designs. Ensure designs meet manufacturing, sustainability, cost, and logistics constraints. Collaborate with vendors, converters, and internal teams to resolve design feasibility issues. AI‑Enabled Design Generation
Leverage AI‑driven tools and generative design systems to create, optimize, and iterate packaging concepts. Define rules, constraints, and input parameters for AI‑based packaging generation (materials, dimensions, load, retail standards). Partner with data science and product teams to train and refine AI models using packaging drawings, specs, and historical designs. Evaluate AI‑generated outputs for accuracy, compliance, and manufacturability. Retail & Consumer Readiness
Ensure packaging designs align with retail shelf standards, merchandising requirements, and consumer experience. Optimize packaging for stackability, durability, unboxing, and visual appeal. Support design‑to‑consumer intelligence by incorporating feedback, performance data, and test results. Documentation & Standards
Maintain structured packaging libraries, design standards, and reusable templates. Create clear technical documentation for drawings, specs, and AI workflows. Support governance and approval processes for packaging changes. Required Qualifications
7+ years of experience in retail/CPG packaging design or packaging engineering. Strong proficiency in 2D and 3D packaging drawings (e.g., dielines, CAD models). Hands‑on experience with tools such as ArtiosCAD, Esko, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar. Practical exposure to AI‑based or generative design tools (packaging, industrial design, or adjacent domains). Solid understanding of materials, print processes, and packaging manufacturing workflows. Ability to bridge design, engineering, and digital/AI teams. Preferred Qualifications
Experience applying AI/ML to design automation, optimization, or recommendation systems. Knowledge of sustainable packaging frameworks and material optimization. Experience working with global retail brands or large‑scale packaging programs. Familiarity with FMEA or design readiness assessments in packaging contexts. What Success Looks Like
Faster packaging design cycles through effective use of AI‑driven generation. High‑quality, manufacturable designs with minimal rework. A scalable packaging design system combining human expertise and AI intelligence. Improved consistency across packaging formats, brands, and regions. This job description is not intended to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities, duties, or activities that are required. Responsibilities, duties, and/or activities may change, or new ones may be added at any time with or without notice.
