The Instructional Designer provides services to publicly funded clients of the Outreach Center for Public Management.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the CPM Instructional Design Services Manager, design, development, and evaluation of training materials and content for traditional and blended learning courses, online modules and related programs. Identify meaningful learning outcomes and select the most appropriate instructional approach (face-to-face, hybrid, or online) to realize those objectives. Design, develop, and maintain online learning resources using eLearning tools and trends to engage the remote learner. Evaluate eLearning programs and recommend improvements. Design and develop instructional materials and curricula for traditional classroom training courses and blended learning programs. Conduct needs assessments. Employ a variety of learning methods and emerging technologies to achieve learning outcomes. Partner with internal/external University and state agency customers, learning consultants, and subject-matter-experts to create design documents, specify learning objectives, select interactive exercises, and create evaluation plans. Identify appropriate evaluation techniques and apply them to measure the impact of the learning experience. Conduct literature reviews of theory and evidence-based practices. Practice learner-centered instructional methods and alternatives to lectures that accommodate different adult learning styles. Manage projects and facilitate documentation (surveys, assessments, and observations) of selected activities, behaviors, or outcomes. Foster innovation, drive execution, focus on the customer, collaborate effectively, solve problems creatively, and demonstrate high integrity.

Job Requirements

Required:

Bachelor\'s degree,

AND: 24 months experience working in an instructional design position. Equivalency/Substitution:

Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor\'s degree for a total of 72 months of related experience. Skills: Experience designing college-level curriculum, especially the development of a full curriculum preferred. Experience with online learning and the development of online curriculum highly valued. Demonstrated project management skills. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently as well as collegially with other staff members. Certifications: None

Advertised Physical/Environmental Requirements: Sit for prolonged periods; use of a computer and telephone; ability to engage in repetitive motions; communicate effectively and listen; standard office environment. Departmental Preferences: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Psychology & Technology, Adult Learning, Human Resource Development or related field; Master’s degree or higher in related fields; 36 months experience in instructional design, adult learning and development, performance measurement, multimedia, and curriculum and course development for classroom and online learning environments; knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements; experience with state agency or public sector human service programs; experience with multimedia software.
