This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA, and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. The Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).
The Sr. Communications Specialist drives the organization’s internal and external communication strategy, ensuring consistent, compelling, and brand‑aligned messaging across all channels. This role blends strategic planning with hands‑on content creation, guiding a small team while collaborating closely with executives, designers, and cross‑functional partners with other Hanford Contractors and community members.
Responsibilities
Plan and execute corporate events, conferences, and internal engagements
Coordinate trade show logistics, booth design, promotional materials, and follow‑up activities
Develop and maintain branding guidelines for consistency across all communication channels
Create and edit high‑quality content for newsletters, brochures, websites, intranet pages, presentations, and social media
Provide strategic communication guidance to senior leadership and craft executive messaging
Manage social media presence, including monitoring, posting, and analytics
Lead and mentor team members; provide work direction as needed
Develop communication plans for organizational changes to ensure effective transition
Gather and communicate employee and public feedback to leadership; monitor and respond to inquiries
Support event planning and coordinate with graphic design teams for layout and visual content
Utilize current graphic design tools and software to produce internal and external materials
Ensure adherence to quality standards for all communication and design outputs
Recommend appropriate methods and media to achieve desired communication outcomes
Maintain inventory of graphic design equipment and coordinate material production and distribution
Participate in emergency operations communication roles as required
Perform other duties as assigned
This position may support Navarro corporate up to 20% of the time.
Minimum Qualifications
Writing and editing skills with experience of AP Style
Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines
Experience developing and enforcing brand guidelines
Proficiency in digital content creation for web, print, and social platforms
Ability to lead and mentor team members in a collaborative environment
Comfortable working with executives and translating complex ideas into clear messages
Knowledge of events and trade show logistics, including vendor coordination
Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in related field such as Journalism or Communications and 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Preferred Qualifications
8+ years of experience in corporate communications, event planning, marketing, or public relations
Working Knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, software
Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

Compensation:
Grade 16: $90,150 - $113,550
Grade 18: $109,013 - $137,538
The grade level offered to the selected candidate will be based on business needs and the candidate’s education, training, and/or relevant experience.
In accordance with the Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc (Navarro) salary determination process, Navarro takes into consideration the level of assigned job duties and responsibilities and the candidate’s education, training, and/or experience relative to internal peers and the external labor market.
