Overview Director, Electric Powertrain – ENC is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to guide the development, industrialization, and in-house manufacturing of next-generation electric propulsion systems for commercial vehicles. This role will work closely with key suppliers, oversee internal teams, and build ENC’s electric motor, inverter/motor controller, and power electronics competency from the ground up.

The ideal candidate is a strategic technical leader with deep experience in electric drivetrain systems—including motors, control hardware, control software, and integration into commercial vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Program Ownership

Define and execute ENC’s long-term strategy for electric powertrain development and in-house manufacturing capability.

Lead cross-functional efforts in engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and operations to build a reliable and scalable powertrain production program.

Own the roadmap for electric motor, inverter, controller hardware, and control software technologies.

Identify, evaluate, and manage external suppliers for motors, inverters, power electronics, and related subsystems.

Negotiate technical requirements, product roadmaps, quality targets, and manufacturing transfer plans.

Lead technology transfer initiatives to bring supplier-supported designs into ENC’s internal production.

Engineering & Technical Development

Oversee design, development, validation, and production readiness of electric motors, inverters, and motor control software.

Direct engineering teams responsible for:

Electric motor design, simulation, and optimization

Inverter and control hardware design

Motor control algorithm and embedded software development

Powertrain integration into vehicle platforms

Establish best-practice engineering processes for requirement definition, safety analysis (ISO 26262), test planning, and product release.

Develop and implement the plan for internal production of electric motors and control hardware.

Define manufacturing requirements, equipment needs, process flow, quality control parameters, and staffing plans.

Work with manufacturing engineering to set up pilot lines, validate processes, and scale to full production.

Testing, Validation & Compliance

Oversee system-level testing including dynamometer testing, environmental testing, EMC/EMI, and durability validation.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and heavy-duty vehicle certification requirements.

Drive continuous improvement activities for reliability, efficiency, and cost optimization.

Leadership & Team Building

Build and mentor a high-performance engineering team across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.

Foster a culture of innovation, technical rigor, and operational excellence.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.

10+ years of industry experience in electric powertrain or propulsion systems.

Proven leadership managing engineering teams and cross-functional projects.

Hands-on experience with electric motor and inverter development (design, testing, or industrialization).

Strong understanding of motor control algorithms, embedded software, and power electronics.

Experience working with suppliers and leading technical negotiations.

Track record of building or scaling manufacturing programs for automotive or commercial EV components.

Preferred

Master’s or PhD in Engineering or related field.

Experience in heavy-duty vehicle electrification (bus, truck, off-highway).

Knowledge of ISO 26262, ASPICE, and functional safety processes.

Experience with technology transfer from suppliers to in-house production.

Familiarity with high-voltage systems, battery integration, and propulsion system architecture.
